Yup, that was my original point, which is why I don't think that

Dave was a manifestation of The Smoke Monster.

    .

Although I just remembered that the writers said that

The swarm of spiders that attacked Nikki was a manifestation of the Smoke Monster too, so... maybe it could have been Dave. Unless they were spiders that died on the island! Bloody show

So when dodgy Locke disappeared for a bit, then the smoke monster appeared and killed everyone, then dodgy Locke reappeared and said 'sorry you had to see me like that' to Ben, was he bluffing, or was he actually the smoke monster (or a part of it)?

I thought that the Smoke Monster could only take the form of dead people who's body was on the island? That's why he needed dead Locke to be brought back on the second flight. So Smokie couldn't have been Dave as his dead body was never on the island?
        Good point.

I still think Dave was Smokie; as Hurley sees dead people, maybe Dave was a real person who has died, and maybe he died on the island. I'm expecting him to make an appearance this season, maybe only a corpse on the island or something. I'm convinced trying to get Hurley to kill himself, which was very different to the other manifestations, is important.

Something else to ponder - what does this all mean for Claire? We last saw her (other than in alt-timeline) in Jacob's house with Jack's dad (and yes, there must be a connection with Jack and Jacob based on the similar names). Now, if he was Smokie, how did he get into Jacob's cabin? We get the impression the cabin has been deserted for ages, but was the "ash" that seems to keep Smokie out broken, allowing him in?

Going to be a good season

          Do we know yet

why the cabin moves around the island?

            Nope. Several possibilities of course.

It's on it's own little time trip like the island? That would be my pick.

I'd say Jacob is trying to stay hidden from smokie, but if we assume Julian is Smokie inside the cabin, then that can't be the case.

The real cabin was destroyed by smokie and now he manifests the cabin itself to fool people into thinking it's Jacob inside - doubtful that one, but hey, it's Lost, pretty much anything goes!

When Jacob's bodyguards were carrying around Locke's dead body at the end of season 5, they went to the cabin and saw that the ash circle around it had been broken. They also said that "Jacob hasn't been here for some time; someone else has been using it," which leads me to believe that the someone else was Jacob's enemy posing as Jacob.

When Locke went to the cabin he saw Jack's Dad who said he spoke on behalf of Jacob. I think that was Jacob's enemy, feeding false info to Locke and getting him to do things to advance his plan of eventually being able to kill Jacob.

I don't know, I thought Dave was just in Hugo's head, related to the accident in which Hugo caused people to die on a raft or something because he was overweight, part of him eating to punish himself for it, Dave was the negetive part of Hugo holding him back.

Hmm though I guess that could still mean Smokie used Dave on the island to try and get Hugo to kill himself, argh so confusing.

Ben was using the Cabin pretending to be in touch with him and giving out orders in His name

I've said it before and I will say it again, some awesome discussion and theories in this thread. This truly is (well apart from the show itself) the beauty of Lost.

But I don't know about Lost, as it has a big loyal fan base, and the story line has not let us down since it started (well not for me anyways) so I look forward to it, even if I am dreading it finisheg for good....... You will see jagvirdi, comeApril (or whenever it finishes) you will be thinking 'DAMN, I shouldn't have doubted him' Well i hope you will......... for my ego's sake

Spags, you have a point, but

I still think that Jacob led Hurley to the healing temple so that he could be 'reborn' as Sayid. I think Jacod knew the plan of the black smoke dude all along and had been through time to make sure it all came to happen this way, as he knew that he would be 'betrayed' or killed through black smoke guys games. Why else would he give Hurley the guitar in the back of the Taxi cab back in Season 5........ Locke is dead, Sayid is dead..... like you mentioned with Ben, Dead is Dead, you don't come back. The 'Gods' have just taken on a different form. If you look at the promo pictures of this season - the last supper one in particular. Sayid is Judas, and Locke is Jesus, so in a round about way the roles have reversed and Jacob is now plotting to kill Black smoke dude. Well thats my take on it from what I know........

                          112

I sure hope you're right 112. I love Lost and all the theories that it arrive from it. I have high expectations and I hope it gets the ending it truly deserves. Theres simply so much happened and so much going on, I find it hard to see how the can wrap it up nicely. Will be sad when it finishes!

Also, I think your theory sounds about right.

Interesting that they been letting `the infection` sub plot bubble away all this time.

It wasn't until last night that I put together how much of a reoccurring theme it's been from

Russo's team mates being dragged off by the black smoke and coming back `infected`, Desmond and Kelvin were worried about it when leaving the hatch (although Dharma probably got that wrong and didn't understand what it was about) and now poor Sayid.

Also, I'm calling it now why we're seeing interludes of the Oceanic flight passengers as if nothing happened. In other words, my ending to the series spoiler:-

The bomb didn't work but somehow Juliet was able to see that something had reset everything. That something is probably at the end of the series which resets everything as if the plane never crashed.

I'm guessing the fight between Good and Evil gets sorted out and as a reward for their help in defeating the evil the Losties get reset as if they whole thing never happened. The island gets sunk so the cycle that Jacob and the other guy described on the beach at the end of the last series, is broken.

What we're seeing is the producers way of not coping out by saying "well, everything went back as if if all never happened" and then leaving you wondering what would have happened with the massive implications for the lives of Jack, Kate, Locke etc

It's a a clever way of giving people a proper send off for characters they've come to know and love.

Really poor last night, how can they still be setting stuff up after 5 seasons of setting things up. This Season should just be hitting you up with mad answers not this bullshucky! Fingers crossed for next week, need some Richard action.
