I think the abstract nature of the

flash-purgatory/pre-afterlife is what confuses me most. I understand what it means (I think) in terms of the characters 'awakening', letting go and moving on but the whole no time and all time thing with some characters oblivious and living (what seem) normal lives while others seeming to know what's going on and choosing to stay (which, I guess, is not letting go) messes with my head a bit.

In a bittersweet way I liked the fact that although Jack died on the island in series time the plane escapees may have gone on to lead normal lives for many years (and maybe 1000s in the case of Ben and Hurley) before all meeting up at the end. It was a bit like the end of Philip Pullman's The Amber Spyglass in that although the two characters go their separate ways and you think there could be more adventures, a page later you're told that in old age one of them sometimes thought about the other and how they got on. You knew that end point and that although there were many years in between it wasn't really worth talking about (if that makes any sense).

You can say that was blatantly obvious but I don't think anyone else here had previously mentioned it

No need to roll your eyes man, I was agreeing with you not trying to say your idea was so obvious that nobody needed to mention it

Problem I have with the afterlife world is if everybody is able to create things to help them then how does that reconcile itself. If it was just from Jack's perspective then the child makes sense, but how do you then have Daniel's mother wanting to hold onto her son. Was Daniel not in that world but created by his mother who was?

That Bad Robot 'writer' thread is funny. I knew they'd jump his/her dodgy spelling mistayks!

And what is up with forum signatures? Is there some kind of website they use that just takes random images you give it and spits out a sig? They always look the same to me. I rarely come across a signature that doesn't fit those strict criteria.

Glad I read through the thread before posting because I was gonna post something along the same lines when it came to Jack's son

I was going to say that Jack had a poor relationship with his father, which is one of the things he needs to move on from / let go of from his mortal life. So having a son in the flash sideways world allows him too see the struggles of being a father, appreciate what his Dad had to go through, etc., etc., to help him let go of that part of his life.

Although then that begs the question of what IS David, if he's not another spirit and is just some kind of creation of Jack & Juliet. The ambitiousness of Lost is that they're often looking at subjects that have no answer / we don't know the answer in real life either, which means it's always possible to pick away at it, but that's one of the reasons I love it.

I thought the final episode was decent, but at the same time a bit of a cop-out.

It seemed to concentrate almost entirely on explaining the alternate universe, which didn't even come into play until this last series. Didn't expect them to reveal some of the more mysterious stuff on the island, but the cynic in me says that they managed to avoid answering the (comparatively) mundane stuff aswell by giving this alternate storyline far more precedence.

Good ending, but I couldn't help but be a bit disappointed.

Cool I may be a bit ratty as I've been ill 5 days now, only stopped throwing up the other day, lost half a stone and hardly eating. I've felt better

I think the "afterlife" was more a dumping ground for EVERYONE, not just Island folk. So Locke's dad, for example, was paying penance for what he'd done to his son, as well as others. Dan's mum, as one of the few people who knew what was going on throughout the show, was valuing the extended time she had with Dan knowing this time she wouldn't kill him in the past.

I agree it seemed very much Jack's perspective of the afterlife, but I think the idea is everyone gets to live out things again, a different way, to reconcile their differences and only when they've made atonement / come to terms with their previous life do they move on.

**** knows, it's got so many holes in it....

                        Gutted this has finished now.

It's hard to think that six years ago, that LOST could become the phenomenon it has. Even harder to think that the show has been something I've watched avidly for 20% of my life.

I think one of the main things about the ending is that even though some things were explained, a LOT was left up in the air. All this will do is keep the discussions going and extend the legacy of the show.

Some really touching moments and I literally had to keep my emotions in check, especially the Sawyer/Juliette, Sayid/Shannon, Ben/Locke & Ben/Hurley scenes, although I did chuckle when Hurley made the 'Number two' comment!

I also liked how Ben decided to stay behind. That was the moment that made me change my opinion of the guy. It was also nice to see Desmond telling Eloise that Daniel wasn't going with everyone else. Hopefully he's now happy with Charlotte and having a good relationship with his parents.

Out of the whole series, my favourite characters were Eko, Juliette, Daniel, Charlotte, Lapidus & Hurley. Quite disappointed Eko and his Jesus stick weren't included though and I'm guessing Lapidus wasn't shown as he'd 'done his bit' by piloting the plane off the island.

Never much cared for Jack or Locke though and I thought making Hurley the protector of the Island was something that would happen in the end. It was kind of the unobvious obvious decision.

Overall, I'm satisfied with the ending because as I previously said, it still leaves a lot open for discussion and that was always one of the main things about it - Anything that was not explained was open for interperetation and no doubt in another six years I'll still be talking about it.

The Jimmy Kimmel Lost stuff over the years has been funny stuff. Liked the alt endings sketch he had after last episode, the survivor island one with Sayid getting voted off the island and Sayid's reaction was funny.
Gorgeous Man staring contest with him and Matthew Fox.
