Yeah, the trailers suggest constant mad action but its strolls along at such a calm casual pace. Again the music is doesn't help set the mood at all. The tone they should have gone for was lady Bourne - tough, quick, frantic and to the point, ESPECIALLY with a title like Haywire. Instead they've ended up with Mission Impregnable - unnecessarily convoluted style over substance with a lead who takes themselves waaaay to seriously and utterly forgettable.

In regards to Cabin In the Woods, i think it was mostly because of the tagline: You Think You Know The Story...

      - by the first ten minutes I knew exactly where the story was going so yes. There werent any surprises, no twists and turns, and it turned out to be a very different film then i was hoping for. I was hoping for a genre twisting film like Scream, if not more so... but it didnt do that for me.

I liked the film for sure, it was mindless entertainment, very fun. Definitely enjoyed it and liked how it poked fun at the genre, but it wasn't the film that was i lead to believe . It was very predictable and for a film that boasts the above tagline that was a bit of a letdown.

Still, definitely worth a see. Just ignore all the hype

Watched Crazy, Stupid, Love. the other night, was pleasantly surprised by it.
Not your usual romantic comedy, had a few little plot moments which I smiled at and thought were pretty good, aye I enjoyed it.
        4 kisses out 5.

Went to see "The artist" whilist I was on holiday, really very good. Really well made and managed to hold my interest throughout, not quite as good as the bazillion oscar nominations had me believe though.

Same here, great movie...although it could have been average, and i would still enjoy it for its superb cast.

Recently watched the Fast n Furious movies (left 3 out, will watch that later) It really is a fun franchise and I love the change of direction with 4 and especially 5. It was a brave decision to move away from racing and more into shoot em up territory but its worked. 4 is mostly miss but I did like the on foot chase scenes with Paul Walker in his FBI suit, it was pretty kool. And the Rio gun scenes in 5 are great too, didnt like the bank vault bit at the end so much, it was a bit TOO insane and a lot of it didnt look real. It reminded me of Terminator 3 actually.

One thing that stops this franchise from being truly great is the lack of a classic baddie in any of the movies. Bringing the Rock on board was great and look forward to the 6th instalment but they've kinda got rid of him as a threat now. The rest of the bad guys featured are 2d and boring.

Battle Los Angeles - had no expectations at all for this as I knew nothing about it, except that it was universally panned. I actually enjoyed it for all its faults (and yes it had many, cliched plot, bad acting, poor pacing etc.). Way better than Independence Day, that's for sure (not that the bar is set high using that film as a comparison). I thought the SFX in particular were absolutely superb, I was really blown away in parts. Another 6/10.

Eh? Independance Day is a great film.

I wouldnt say Battle L.A was great, but yeah it was fun and probably underrated. Though it wasnt universally panned. It has a rating of 35% on rotten tomatoes so a few people must have liked it.

I fully believe that someone at home could take the film re-edit it and turn it into a much, much better effort. Editing is probably it's biggest issue.

What was wrong with the editing? I thought it was brilliantly done.

Re-editing would allow for fleshing out the timing for the few jumps it has so then they're more effective. You could also completely remove the facility sections from the first half hour/40mins of the film creating a twist/reveal further in. With some suspense and surprise it would have been a much more effective film. The audience getting annoyed as the characters descended into the stereotypes then having their minds warped by the reveal would have been quite effective, instead it blows its twist out the gate.

But that would be a completely different film. They made an effort to not have any silly twists and turns, so why would they re edit it to include one?

Personally I love the film as it is and if they did what you suggest I think it would lose much of its charm.

That's why I'd be interested in a different edit, it'd gain charm for me As it is it's too simple

Same here, I enjoyed the film for it was. To me it was sort of a mix between Independence Day (which has aged terribly btw) and Black Hawk Down (following a close team about through a mess of a situation). Want to give it another watch soon which is a sign of a good movie.

Well Im not one for films made around twists, all the best horror films have very simple stories that are told well, twists usually ruin films, they very rarely compliment them.

Cabin in the Woods is structured in the same way that all the best horror films are. You enjoy it becuase you care about the characters and enjoy the ride as they fight for their lives, not becuase of some silly twist.
