    Lockout

Went to the cinema and watched this last night and really enjoyed it.

Its a space action film that doesnt take itself to serious at all and thats why its good. So many things are wrong with it, CG at beginning, how you move about in space etc but you end up not caring at all.

Also all the main actors play it so well, especially the crazy one Joseph Gilgun. Thumbs up for Guy Pearce who I believe we are going to see in Promethus also.

Hope it does well this week before avengers swamps it!

he he yeah, there's a few genuinely funny moments.

I actually really enjoyed the parts with The Rock and Samuel L Jackson - Thought they were great together. Wouldn't mind seeing them do a spin-off, though

that might be tricky with both of them dying in the first five minutes.

Watched Logan's Run again last night. It's the film that is responsible for my teenage obsession with Jenny Agutter. This film lead me onto such great things as Jenny Agutter in the shower in American Werewolf in London and just about the whole of Walkabout. Great days.

Complete and utter pish... Tries to be a clever set on a scary movie, just leaves you thinking wtf all the way through.

            Gone

Just been to see this with the wife, and its alright ish. Seem's to have been advertised for ages at my local cinema and so was hoping for a good thriller flick! I have a monthly pass to my local cineworld so I pretty much go and see anything that looks half decent.

The first 45mins of it though are just complete borefest.... it then starts to warm up and ended really quite good

Defo one for anyone else that has a pass, orange wed or cheap tue, if nothing else on. If not wait for DVD / BR.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes

My brother has had this on Blu-ray since Xmas and I only remembered about it last night so decided to give it a watch. Glad I did as it was nothing like I expected it to be and thoroughly enjoyed it even if it did make me sad at some points
Are there any plans on a sequel to this to show what happens next? Would be interesting to see more indepth detail than what they hinted at on the credits.
From memory the Mark Wahlberg PotA was awful but a part of me wants to see it again.

The misses and I enjoyed it - but yes, it thought it was a lot more clever than it was. It was very basic and straight forward, no twists and turns, was all very predictable. I did enjoy it, but was not nearly as good as i was expecting. Was merely okay

I don't think cabin in the woods was actually made with the intention of being clever. And that's the reason why it is acually quite clever.

It gets by on being a good and well made film with a likeable cast and a witty script and some great moments. Much like scream before it it simply winks at the audience and takes you along for the ride rather than trying to mess up your mind. I don't even think its suppose to be scary, but it's one of the most fun horror movies I have ever seen, so it doesn't really matter if it's scary or not(do they even make scary films anymore?) it's simply so flat out enjoyable from begining to end.

I'm happy to say a few people I know have also seen Cabin now too and its growing reputation as ****e is growing, it could end up being Kingdom of the Crystal Cabin in the Woods! h3ar:

We watched Fast & Furious, Fast and the Furious 5 and Lethal Weapon 4. Good fun all round and watching F5 again rammed home that for me it's clearly the series high point so far.

Well so far at least (and its been out awhile now) General opinion on it still definitely seems to be that Cabin In The Woods is great. You are always going to get a few people that just don't get a film like that, I mentioned scream becuase that's another film that was hailed for clever writing and the way it knowingly winked at the audience, but some people didn't like that either, citing that it was "cleverer than it thinks it is".

They are also both films that purposely point out genre cliches on a regular basis, to the point that a major plot point of Cabin in the woods is actually how stereotypical it's leads are. That's the whole point of the film really, it's having fun with its genre (and doing it successfully) rather than trying to be some genius twist on that genre, and ultimately becuase it does that so well it ends up being a fantastic film.

                          watched a few oldies;

The Bounty - one of my favs, superb acting from Hopkins, (ditch the UK dvd version and get the Australian version - better audio and video quality

Death of a salesman - first time watching this; more superb acting from Hoffman, very interesting and rather sad too

                              Just seen Haywire . . . . . wot a load of sh1t!

The fighting is so so and the plot so flipping obvious, a complete waste of all the talented actors time. Its a flipping all star cast based around Gina Carano who is here purely for her looks and fighting talent cos her acting is so wooden she makes Channing Tatum look like Robert De Niro. To be fair, Jackie Chan and co were never oscar worthy actors themselves but this girl isnt even a great fighter. Again, in her defence I dont think the choreography was anything great, maybe in the hands of the great Woo Ping she could be interesting but she lacks agility cos shes based more in MMA than Kung Fu.

I guess I just dont like Mr Soderbergh's style. Apart from The Limey and The Informant!, although I havent seen Solaris and Traffic. Visually he's nothing special but his soundtrack choices are so off. Also the ending of the Limey and Haywire are nearly the same in terms of bad guy confrontation. I cant understand for the life of me why he chose to do it again. I think they ran out of ideas in the end.

Agreed, terrible film. The funny thing is it has a really simple plot, but they just made it all appear so convoluted that it turned into a confusing mess and then they explain it at the end and you realise that you have just watched a 95 minute film that featured 5 minutes worth of story. Also dosent help that it was directed like a drugged up film student had just got hold of a digital camera for the first time and got it into his pretentious little mind that he was making somthing with artistic value. It was completely up its own bum.

Even the name made no sense, Haywire? I can only presume that the title is refering to what happened during the script writing process. The name implies there will be some excitment to be found from it, but in truth its such a tedious film, even the climatic fight is preceeded by a relaxing stroll on the beach.

Utter garbage. Soderberg is pretty much the most overrated director working today.
