Knowing was pure ****e, I tried watching it when it was on C4HD the other day. Pic and sound quality was very good but Nic Cage and the ending made a bad film completely shizznit. I can understand the Shaymalyan comparison, it played out like one of his movies plus it was rubbish.
Serioulsy, the last good thing Nic cage was good in was Kick Ass and he was only in that for a total of like 20 mins. He simply isnt a good lead anymore, I cant understand how he still gets to make big budget movies. One of the most over rated actors of all time!

He definitley didnt ruin Knowing, its a good film, it has some fantastic set peices and a good story to boot. Ok the ending did it no favours but on the whole its a very enjoyavble film.

How can you like him when you said he's sleepwalking in half his films? That doesn't make any sense unless you're prepared to overlook his laziness cos you love him so much?
Cage is not good value. Maybe during his heyday in the 90's with the Rock, Con Air and Face Off (all 3 which are average at best and not stood the test of time IMHO), he's not anymore. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000115/ jeez, just look at his output of poo. It far outweighs any good stuff he's done.

Its quite a hard movie to get through, te kid is annoying but thats just me. Nothing wrong with his performace. Vigo Mortissan was immense, he just looked completley shattered throughout, not just physically but mentally as well. Its like he just couldnt drop his guard down for a second due to the brutally that humanity has resorted to all around them. Dont think I'd watch it again, it wasnt rewarding enough a view. Not that it was ever meant to be if I remember the book source.

And how on earth can you say the Likes of The Rock, Con Air and Face Off are average at best? Those are some of the very best US action movies ever made right there. I actually watch all three of them often, absolubtley fantastic films. The kind of top notch blockbuster entertainment we wish every film of their type had but most rarely deliver on.Last edited by rmoxon; 23-11-2011, 22:52.

I like Nic Cage but i understand what you are getting at
Love The Rock and the shower scene has inspired many games, not so much face off but Con Air is tremendous
Recently seen him in The Sorcerer's Apprentice, Season of the witch, Drive Angry and Tresspass and all have been decent
Lord of war he is just awesome
With Kick Ass he might have not had so much screen time but when he did he was very goodLast edited by buster_broon; 23-11-2011, 23:00.

With all due respect, Cage isnt the best thing about the 3 action flms mentioned. He's acting alongside Connery, Travolta and Malkovich who carry his lazy ass through.
Season of the witch and Drive Angry were terrible movies which never should have been made. Even in those films, you got Pearlman and Fichtner who steal it from him.
Anyway, Im in danger of steering this thread off topic so I'll shut up now

Needed to clear some space on the Sky box, so decided to watch a couple of cult classics, again from The Horror Channel. First up, Island Of Death, a film I thought I'd seen as a child (turns out it was a different film with the same name). It's a bit of a bonanza, this, and is probably the first film I've seen where a bloke
f*cks a goat then kills it
after being refused
sex by his sister
. Add to that an unexpected
golden shower
, a
beheading by bulldozer
, a
crucified Frenchman
, a
bloke getting lynched via aeroplane
, plus acres more rape, murder and depravity, and you've got a bit of a winner. Not only that, all the carnage takes place on the sunny Greek isle of Mykonos, and much of the movie seems like footage shot for a TV travel show, it's pretty lush. An odd combo, but a very memorable one.
Followed that up with City Of The Living Dead, a film I haven't seen for over a decade. The Horror Channel are showing a spectacularly good uncut print of this, I've never seen the film looking so good. Forgot how atmospheric this is, all dusty and windswept but the sound design is what really makes this film, oppressive howls and buzzes, it's truly nightmarish stuff. Not only that, I forgot how gory it was, the bit where the girl
barfs her intestines up
is spectacularly disgusting, and the numerous
brain squishings
are proper yuck. It's a wondrously atmospheric film and I'm chuffed to have finally seen it in such a quality state after all these years.
