They're pretty good as a rule, but it's not showing up yet. Wait for release and check out there or AVForums is probably the best idea.

Given their past reputations on video quality, I'd be tempted to wait for the Paramount version.

But that encoding process is the stage where it can often go wrong...

there was a fiar amount of detail on offer, but large open spaces (especially clothing) literally never stopped moving. As I said though I only watched it for about ten minutes, but that was the first thing I noticed.
It's interesting because someone at work complained that they just watched 30 days of night and think that it's the worst looking Blu-Ray ever. They were moaning about loads and loads of grain and night scenes being literally covered in the stuff.
I've got the US version and was really impressed with the picture. Granted I only have a TV that's capable of doing 1080i, but surely there's not that much difference between i and P?

I thought the picture quality for 30 Days of Night was brilliant, personally. Yes, there is grain present, but I thought that was part of the style of the film - it's very washed out, where the film-makers have gone for a comic-book style. Close ups of the actors at times were stunning.
I watched the first 20 mins of Sweeney Todd last night. I wasn't that keen on the picture quality either - but I couldn't decide whether that was also due to the washed-out colour palette used in the film. It's as if Tim Burton wanted the picture faded out and as close to black and white as possible, accentuating the deep red used for the blood (of which there is plenty!).

they're under the impression that every film should look like Casino Royale...
