A number of my local HMVs in Birmingham have both Gunbuster and Diebuster, and a boxset of both in stock for ?25 each or ?50 for the boxset. Play also have it I believe but I can't recall how much for.

I've watched quite a few Blu Ray discs this week.

Dark Knight, Wall E, Cloverfield and Band of Brothers. I'd say that Cloverfield had the best picture quality. I was really really impressed with it.

Did the PQ stand out for anyone else?

Can't find Gunbuster instock anywhere in the UK. I work in HMV and they can't get it anymore as it has been discountinued already.

Can anyone find out if the us version works on a pal ps3?

Watched The Dark Knight and after having seen it twice at the iMax wasn't expecting it to blow me away but it really did - the screen size change works very well imo and the picture was lush! Shame the second disc was waffer thin on the Extras...

Just finished watching Kung Fu Panda. Not normally a fan of Dreamworks CG movies but this has been receiving positive reviews so I thought it could possibly be worth a punt:

Absolutely stunning film! Humour throughout worked on so many levels - I found myself laughing at the stupid prank-falls and slapstick stuff one minute and then some of the slightly more grown up jokes the next.

The PQ is mindblowingly good!! Obviously this is going to be good due to it being modern and CG but I still wasn't prepared for the eye-meltingly amazing picture. The bit where Po is strapped to the firework chair is true reference material. Lots of nice little touches too which HD really helped bring to the fore like dust and particle effects. The final fight scene is tremendous as is the fight on the rope bridge.

I heartily recommend this film to anybody!!!

Just started to watch Sky High (the Disney superhero one not the Kitamura one). I've seen it on DVD before but this is something else. nice bold colours and razor sharp details. There are some very pretty people in this film and the PQ makes them look even better!

Ooh, meant to ask. Has anybody got Equilibrium on Blu Ray yet? I love that film and have seen it so many times on DVD. Just wondered if the transfer was any good and also if it is region free as I have a Jap PS3 (Region A).

Watched Prints Caspian last night. Great PQ and audio but i thought the film was a complete bore. Went on for about half an hour too long and there was a real lack of excitement or sparkle, ho-hum.

Kung Fu Panda is actually low-pass filtered, so while it looks good in many areas and people will certainly love how it looks, it isn't QUITE as detailed as it could be. So while I take on board the opinion of just about everyone that it looks excellent, it's not "reference quality"

Wow! Kind of makes you wonder how amazing it would have looked if they'd let out all the stops.

Haven't seen it yet but it is region free according to the usual site.

I'm sure I read somewhere that Equilibrium is not in its original aspect ratio on Blu - instead of 2.35:1, it's been released at around 1.78:1

Cloverfield was shot in 1080p and it really shows. It looks stunning.

Has anyone got the Criterion edition of The Last Emporer yet - and is it worth a blind buy for someone who has never seen the film? I get the feeling it will be my type of film, but it's expensive(ish) at all the usual outlets - worth a punt, anyone?

Which version of The Shining is generally recommended; the standard UK one or the 'uncut' 144min US release?
