A few details about Tron...

Disney's TRON Legacy and TRON: The Original Classic will be available in a variety of Blu-ray and DVD configurations. Among those we know for sure: TRON Legacy will be available in a Blu-ray 3D/Blu-ray/DVD/Digital Copy Combo Pack as well as a standard Blu-ray/DVD Combo and DVD. (Street date TBA, likely in late May or early June) TRON: The Original Classic will also be available in a Blu-ray/DVD Combo and may also be re-issued on DVD the same day. You'll also be able to buy TRON Legacy 3D and TRON: The Original Classic in a 5-disc Blu-ray 3D/Blu-ray/DVD/Digital Copy Combo 2-Movie Collection (the 5 discs would presumably include a TRON Legacy Blu-ray 3D disc, a TRON Legacy Blu-ray, a TRON: The Original Classic Blu-ray, a DVD disc (one or both films) and a Digital Copy (one or both films), and that same collection will also be available in The Ultimate TRON Experience: Limited Edition with the discs packed in a replica Identity Disc prop that glows. We'll certainly post all the final details when Disney makes their actual announcement. Meanwhile, here are the picture of the cover art we believe is official (or at least near-final)...

There should also be Tron Legacy: The Sensible Edition for people who don't like wasting plastic. It will come with a SINGLE Blu-ray Disc which features a 3D version of the movie, which will play back in 2D on 2D equipment.

Where did all this combo pack nonsense come from, anyway? If I want a DVD, I'm not going to pay £5 extra for a Blu-Ray. If I want a Blu-Ray then I clearly don't need a DVD.

The idea was that a lot of BD Players would be in living rooms, but kids' bedrooms and cars would still have DVD players. So I can see the thinking of a BD+DVD version.

But it's just got stupid. A 2D BD + 3D BD + 2D DVD + some stupid copy to watch on my telephone?

I agree but it does seem to be the DVD/blu-ray combo sets that perform better in the charts so somebody, somewhere seems to like them.

The best option all round is to probably just avoid the film completely and spend that money on a decent film such as Midnight Cowboy, Platoon or The Thin Red Line which are released over here around the same time.

I'm a big fan of the combo sets. I have a nice big telly with my PS3 so I will always go Blu-Ray where I can. But that's the only place I can watch Blu-Ray, which is limiting. So if I want to watch something in work at lunchtime or anywhere else, I can bring the DVD. Or sending the kids to Granny's with a Toy Story DVD, rather than not being able to do anything with the Blu-Ray. It opens up the options.

I have little need for digital copies but even those have turned out to be handy every now and again when I want to show people some of the funny bits from the Family Guy Star Wars specials just because they came up in a conversation.

I'm the same but donate the DVD to my parents & sometimes the digital copy goes on the Missus Iphone so she can watch them on the train.
