Blu-Ray Best Of The Best - for discussing releases only

Watched Moon on Blu-Ray. It was OK. Bit dull. Interestingly French DVDs put the spine legend the wrong way round (at least the 2 I have do) which makes it bloody annoying when you're trying to put them on the shelf.

In terms of picture quality it's hardly a test for a BR, but I quite liked the model work in it, which stood up quite well in HD, even if the models were clearly little radio controlled cars.

The transfers for the original versions are from the Definitive laserdisc masters, which were hot **** in 1993. They don't look so hot now.

Anyone that wants to know what these'll look like: a hint. They've been broadcast in 1080p years ago and even if Lowry haven't done a second pass (one that doesn't involve the oversaturation pen again, thank you) they look pretty damn good.

What is it with Lucas insisting things that have always been red now have to be pink? X-wing engine exhaust is RED! SORT IT OUT.

If it's the prequels and remastered originals doesn't matter what they look like. The movies are ****. They could be delivered in in 3D holovision via direct cortex implant, and Greedo would still shoot first. Total pish. Lucas gets no more of my money. Ever.

Yep, with you on that. Thing is, am I really ever going to watch them again? Prequels? No. Never. They're just bad movies. And I have seen the originals so, so much that they are burned into my memory. I don't think I'll ever watch them again if I have to look at Christensen at the end of RotJ, or stupid CG robot 'comedy' in ANH. Why would I? And, as Anephric points out, the last versions had major problems beyond all the pointless crap Lucas added (colour problems and sound problems too, with channels being reversed). Though I checked out those Adywan trailers and, while he seems to have done amazing work on the colour, he's lost the plot too, adding more TIE Fighters (more does not equal better), weird things like putting props into the background (ruining the framing of one Luke lightsaber shot with a coat) and other insanity.

The Family Guy specials have rendered the original movies redundant. They have everything I love about Star Wars plus laughs.

And the Plinkett prequel reviews are more entertaining than the movies themselves while totally reinforcing why I don't ever want to see them again.

All that said, I still love what Star Wars once was for me. I love what those original movies contributed to my childhood. I'm currently reading Rinzler's Making Of Empire Strikes Back book and it's fantastic (interestingly, making clear how much Lucas doesn't want to be a writer. Or director). So I might be vaguely interested in the extras here. But probably not. Firstly, they'll likely be mostly on the prequels and, secondly, you have to buy the full set to get them.

I was pretty excited about the arrival of the original SW trilogy on Blu-ray but if it's only the 'special' edition versions that'll suck

But I'll still end up buying it.

I can understand people buying the Star Wars Original set or the Complete set, but why would anyone want to buy the Prequel set?

Hopefully the complete set is comprehensive for the fans though I think Lucasfilm were over selling it when they said ti was the most anticipated release ever.

They're also highly inaccurate when they say 'the wait is over'. They're not out til September. And if they'd lie about that, how could we possibly trust anything they say? How?!
