It was all obviously Coppola- (and Willis-) approved, particularly the restoration of the first film where they've used different takes to replace material that was duped in from other prints when the negs were destroyed. Godfather and to a lesser extent Godfather II have looked pretty cludgy through the years on home video, and the DVD offerings first time round were only okayish. I've only seen the new remastered DVDs, and have no idea what the Blu looks like, but the DVD transfers were a reasonable improvement. Nothing breathtaking, but reasonable enough. GI and II are very dark, some would say murky (
) films, with a lot of grain because of that, and this will show up more on the Blu, particularly as Coppola and Willis insisted on no DVNR.
