It all seems pretty obvious to me. If people want a film that has been manipulated to look different to the original, then fine... but it defeats the point of HD, and makes me wonder why these people bother in the first place. I just want something to looks how it's supposed to look.
People don't complain about grain in the cinema when it's blown up to be 20x as big.

Going back a few pages, but just watched the original Predator disc I had sat on the shelf - I don't imagine they'll ever be a better transfer then that. It's not that grainy at all - just the Fox logo at the beginning, which looked like it was created in the 50's, lol. After that, film had the kind of grain you'd expect, and want, from that era action film. Looked great imo. Some shots grainier than others - those that would require more exposure on set. And a few high grain shots where the film was zoomed in, as it's also blurry at those times (yet also some of the best shots in the film, go figure).
I saw this in the cinema many many years back, I won't claim to have any memory how it looked in comparison to the disc, but I doubt there was any difference.
It looked EXACTLY how you'd want it to if you really want the cinema experience at home

Tried every other setting to no avail.
Is this just something to get used to? I mean, I'm all for variable audio but to hear softly spoken bits then transition to a loud scene and be scared the walls are going to cave in...
First experienced this with Band of Brothers, but it's rearing it's head again now.
