Saw this on release day and fairly enjoyed the film. The introduction to his origin story and growing up took a while and I felt the film could have been shortened by 20 minutes and still have been as enjoyable. Otherwise the characters, look of the film and the action were all spot on. It feels like it has been an age since we have seen Superman have an epic scale fight akin to those animation specials DC produce that are absolutely awesome.

More of this in Man of Steel Returns please.

To be fair, the last time we saw anything like this was Superman 2 (A bloody 33 years ago!) The action in 3, 4 and returns was pants.

The end of Superman 2 would be the greatest superhero fight ever, if the effects hadnt aged so badly. I hope the effects in Man of Steel dont look that crap in 30 years time.

Just saw this last night. Absolutely amazing! I loved it. I can understand where people are coming from, but honestly I loved every bit of the action. It was exactly the sort of thing you should aim for in a superhero movie.

Don't get me wrong, I really like the Marvel movies, but this made me realise how light on they've all been as far as action goes.

Also, has anyone mentioned the soundtrack? I wasn't expecting anything spectacular when I heard they were dropping the John Williams theme, but I thought it was great.

I loved the movie as well. Would like to see it again. The first time I watched it I felt like a little kid so that might contribute to bias.

Yes but the action in other superhero films has at least been well thought out...

I just found MOS' action utterly headache inducing, and without any real good idea's. Superman literally just smashes through one thing after the next without really using his many powers in clever ways.

                Also

the part where he allows his father to die just to keep his secret, when at the start he is only too happy to risk everything to help out a few random oil rig workers.....i found just dissapointing.

I don't think it contradicted the logic in the movie so I don't know what you're disappointed about. Honestly I wanted more bashing and smashing. Sure this isn't Hulk but he was fighting against fellow kryptonians so it makes sense to some degree.

It's amazing how polarized opinions are about this movie. However, many fans of Superman, comic book movies in general love this movie, hail it as the best comic book movie yet. I sort of belong in this category and I really felt like a kid in this movie. Loved (almost) every second.

On rewatch I noticed that, at least for now, he seems to have lost

                    his wind/freeze breath power

That could be down to just not knowing or learning it was a skill he had - much like the superman in smallville

he didn't try and fly until he went to the fortress of solitude/crashed spaceship) - I personally didn't like how easily Zod had his neck
Broken plus the phantom zone was a bit gash

Superman films have always been about source content

My misses preferred iron man but I've always been a fan of superman movies considering superman was the first film I saw at the cinema when I was 6 and for me I preferred this over iron man 3, maybe not the first one though

I loved the devastation that I always wanted to see from kryptonians fighting rather than a comedy moment either being thrown through a hole in a doughnut which is advertised on a billboard or pushing a bus or tanker down the street and superman 2 is one of my favourite movies movies and I rate it higher than the original so seeing Zod return made me all excited

                        Its good character development.

                        When

his dad died keeping his secret, clearly that taught him several lessons, one was that he would keep his fathers wish and never intentionally reveal his secret to anyone. Also, his father was clearly a good man (who risked his life to save doggies), this was imprinted on Clark, and its part of the reason who grew up to be the man he is.

As for the action scenes, I thought they were excellent, and fantastically choreographed. They really gave a great impression that these were super powered beings fighting. It was a good display of their super human speed, yet filmed in such away that every hit was registered beautifully with the viewer. After the absorbing build up the last 40 minutes were basically a series of incredibly satisfying fight sequences where you cheered at every punch. It was just a stunning climax to the film, topped off by the

                        breaking of zod's neck

, which was a controversial but very clever move as it brought yet more character development and gave a deeper reason why

Superman does not like to kill people, as he has now had to unwillingly kill one of his own race in order to save the people of earth that he cares deeply about and its a burden that will clearly weigh on his shoulders for some time while also hitting home the fact that he will do anything to protect them when pushed so far.

                        Its a magnificent film

For me I understand the idea behind it and get why he had to do it but I didn't like how easy it was

You mean physically easy, or mentally easy? Becuase

physically they were knocking each other through 15 buildings with one punch, so snapping each others necks wouldn't have been hard, while mentally it didn't seem easy at all, he broke down after he did it.

Plus, Superman is naturally stronger anyway, having grown under our young sun. All that military training and seasoning stands for very little in comparison.

Physically and that's my point they made it look easy, it's not as if Clark was pulling for ages

they did all the damage they did and when it came to the finale it just seemed too easy, I didn't really find it controversial on Zod dying I just felt it was a clumsy ending and if someone was more imaginative then it could have been better, I'm sure people would argue they were both kryptonians so there power matched each other so the breaking of a neck would be easy

I understand why he found it hard mentally because he didn't like death and he was killing one of his own and he did it to save humanity the other side of it I thought was poor

In the same breath I like how he managed to defeat Zod and faora-el earlier In the movie when their facemark failed and they started to feel everything Clark had felt at a young age (faora-el was hit my a missle)

So if they had used that at a later process and he broke his neck then I suppose I might take that but they made It fully clear Zod acclimatise himself quickly, maybe not fully but much quicker than Clark
