Yeah, Yoda doing crosswords is FAIL. I turned round to my sister and said "I remember when Star Wars used to be special"

    She couldnt have agreed more.

If anything Disney will only sell it out more. There's been nothing special about it for years, it's completely ubiquitous.

So did I really just see that the plan is to ressurect Darth Vader or is this tosh?

Lawrence Kasdan, who co-wrote Empire and did the screenplay for Raiders has been signed to write these new movies. I'm suddenly interested.

Hey folks, Harry here Ol Frosty at Collider.com told us this all the way back at the beginning of all these rumors. In fact, this has been RUMOR #1. Well, the folks at @DIYTV in London were doing the "green carpet" interviews for 7...

More suggestion that Matthew Vaughn is going to get the gig

Utterly pointless, have people got nothing better to do, surely there more pressing matters to petition for in the real world?

Anyway, id like to see Niel Blompkamp given directorship. He's already been involved in the halo movie so is no stranger to some major planning, plus he's also proved he can make a Sci fi movie work and on a budget. He'd be my choice.

JJ' seems to be the man

Ah well that's that then. Most overrated man in Hollywood.

If it holds true and he's actually doing it I guess his involvement in Star Trek will lessen. To be honest, unless they get a terrible director it never mattered wgo got the job. This is just more films in an ongoing series, not a reboot, so no director is going to get to make their stamp on the films. Disney will ensure the style and tone of the new films will closely match the existing films so its an autopilot job. The only perk to the gig is getting to say they made a SW film.

That's a very good summary of expectations for the new ones. Would be nice to think Disney Studios will provide directorial freedom to the director/s once they are decided but given they are studio films, fat chance.

Still, I'd prefer to be proved wrong. Would be ace to get some amazing Star Wars universe films. The better they are the more awful episodes I-III will seem (Revenge of the Sith was okay though imho).

JJ is a mega-twat. Definitely the most over-rated director infilm these days. He wouldn't know original if it ass raped him. Please god, let it be anyone but him as director.

At least he isn't writing it. Coincidence is not an acceptable plot device.

I'm going to start a campaign for McG or Brett Ratner as candidates for director!

                              Now confirmed:

George Lucas, Kathleen Kennedy and JJ Abrams issue statements confirming the recent news

Personally if I was JJ I wouldn't go near it with a barge pole, as its going to be impossible to get this right and please the fans. However its a good choice for Disney, unlike others I think JJ is one of the better current directors, in the sort of films that he does.

Every film that he has been invloved in either as director of producer has been very good, Cloverfield, Startrek, Mi3 and how can you not like Super 8??

The only thing I haven't liked that he has been involved in is Lost. Ok he is no Speilberg (yet), but he is still one of the better directors out there for this type of film.

The only real issue is we probably wont see a Star Trek 3 for quite some time now.

At least they have a decent director, they could have chosen McG or Bay.

He cannot do worse than ol' unca George did. Lucas has already set the bar so low with his handling of the franchise that it isn't physically possible to go any lower.
