Personally im looking forward to it, he will certainly give the visuals a different twist, and i cant see the acting style being the same as previous movies, maybe he will go for some unknowns, or up and comings instead of the traditional big names.

Star Wars actors are usually unknowns, the main characters anyway. I mean who had ever heard of Hayden Christiansen before Star Wars?

Wait... that may have been a good thing

I saw Hayden Christensen in some small film before Star Wars on the TV and he wasn't actually that bad of an actor. I think a huge part of why almost everyone sucks in the prequels (Liam Neeson I liked) is because of Lucas' horrible writing and that he's not much of a director, he can't bring out the good in his actors.

The JJ news has made me look forward to this less. It will be good, we know that now. It's just feels...predictable. At least with someone like Snyder or Vaughn it may have been less formulaic I guess. Safe is the word I'm looking for. JJ is a safe choice.

My issue with this is that I love Star Wars and I love a lot of the EU stuff too. Even if this is an amazing movie, it's almost certain that all the EU events will be completely ignored and contradicted. It's a lose/lose situation.

This sums up my thoughts pretty well. That's what JJ Abrams is to me. A decent director but always plays it safe with his productions (and in turn ends up making his sci-fi stuff feel very MotR).

He and his team might prove me wrong and admittedly until I can think of a better director to step-up instead he will have to do for now. The (good?) quality of Into Darkness will act as a benchmark as to if he is the right man or not.

Just don't care about what the new film does to the universe. I don't count the prequels as canon.

I'm going to cut Abrams a little bit of slack. He isn't willing to commit to the release date previously announced by Disney as he wants to take time making sure the script is right before filming commences.

Also it turns out Ben Affleck was in the running for the Epsidoe VII gig. Now that I would like to have seen. He really is a brilliant director.

Aww man. Affleck would have been the BOMB directing Star Wars.

Unless I'm wrong and it's Mord of the Rings.
