As both a Vibert fan and someone intrigued by library music, that's something I'll have to check out. Cheers

Anyway, Fopp have an absolute load of Zappa in stock at the mo. So that's what I'll be squandering my wages on this month. Bit of a fan.

Bought some awesome live albums, which are always worth it for the random audience participations and Zappa's insanely sharp wit....and his guitar solos. But also took the plunge with 'Jazz From Hell', an album full of midi-like instrumentals that no human could play live. It's bloody difficult listening, and hard to enjoy the 80's wafer thin digital sound, but it's so dense and baffling that it really gets under the skin. Could definetly see it as an influence on Squarepusher and the like.

Have One on Me - Joanna Newsom.

Admittedly, I haven't got past the first CD yet.

        My latest "listens":

Fear Factory - Mechanize: allegedly a return to form but I'm not impressed so far. Will maybe grow on me

Rob Zombie - Hellbilly Deluxe II: Superb stuff. Mr Zombie at his best.

Dommin - Love is Gone: Comes across as a mix of HIM and Type O Negative. Pretty good so far. Leads me nicely onto...

HIM - Screamworks Love in Theory and Practice (Chapters 1-13): I have never been disapointed by a HIM album and this one is no exception. More in common with their earlier work, and pleasingly the limited edition came with an acoustic version of the album

Oh, god, you SO have to - it's the music that keeps on giving, the more you explore. I've managed to amass loads of library music since 1997, hundreds of actual library 'archive' CDs and masses of obscure compilations, and I still lust for it - if I was a vinylist, I'd be even worse. You get some incredible, experimental, funky-ass or just plain weird, odd stuff in those archives, and most of it is more than a joy, you can never approach 'normal' music in the same way again once you are converted - what makes it even greater is that most of it was composed by middle-aged men, yet the best of it has a vitality more virile than punk in the mid-70s! The British/European stuff is mainly best, there's way more experimentation going on there, much of the US stuff is too 'confident' to be as overtly odd, though it's all about personal preferences, innit, there are musical wealths on all lands to be enjoyed when it comes to library music.

Here's a couple of stormers off that Vibert album (I won't do full embeds as A. they can be quite 'rude' on a thread like this in such a high quantity and B. slow my browser down summat chronic):

(Fila Brazillia fans might recognise a piece of that track )

PS: I scored the Vibert-compiled Jack Arel 'Strange Galaxy' remix CD for a piddling £2.96 on eBay a few nights back, I think a phase of good karma is starting to kick in.

Richard Cheese - Lounge Against The Machine

Lounge covers of rock stuff. Nice!

I love Richard Cheese. Really great choice. He has a good few albums and they're all great.

Today, I have John Harrison's Day of the Dead score on repeat. I absolutely adore this score. Probably my favourite movie soundtrack of all time.

                          Some good shouts today!

I love Richard Cheese too. Can't beat a bit of lounge. The music is funny but totally listenable. Like a funny Mark Ronson or something!

Hey Dogg, that Day of the Dead score freaks me out! I love the plodding start to it and every time I hear it, I can picture the helicopter flying over the dead city or the escape through the tunnels.

Such a tense film and really apt soundtrack.

Yep, it's a tense soundtrack in places. The opening, in particular, is excellent. But I also love the lighter parts, the quite odd island feel it has at times. A real treat overall.

That Keith Mansfield track is great. Loved the huge break in the middle! Both chucklesome and a samplers goldmine.

Getting in to library music is long overdue I think.

Been listenin' to an awesome version of Dizzy Gillespie's Manteca today. It's not the same one, but found this and it's so good it must be posted.

Love how the whole tune is just several variations of that hypnotic bass riff!
