Originally posted by TobalSoukou no Strain ep1-2 - wow, don't let he 1st 15 minutes put you off thinking its just some kiddy mecha show.
Didn't think the producers would have gone as far as to wipe out all, what seemed like certain secondary characters to me, in the 1st episode. I was expecting some sort of attack to come and for them to be chased off the planet or something but I was like WTF that guys dead.. and then the girl and then her love interest... what the hell.. i was loving everything second of it and there was no Gundam Seed style piloting heroic's, Sara got total owned twice and then lost her controller thing that allows people in this universe to pilot the uber mech's.Wow, I was shocked as well but how come
Sara can walk away from 2 crashes when her friends are killed so easily? Still a great suprise to kill them all off though, I expected to see them just injured in the next scene. How she's changed as a person afterwards is great as well, usually you'd start off with that and have the contents of episode one shown to you as a flashback to explain why things are the way they are but instead they set you up thinking it's gonna be one kind of show and suddenly blow your mind!I was confused about what a MIMIC was at first and who it was that her brother took. Do you think that maybe that was her brother's MIMIC gone wrong somehow and all he was doing was coming back for her? That could be a completely stupid theory, I think I need to watch again
Asatte no Houkou ep3-5 - Reallying enjoy this show even if the story very clich'e about girl becomes women, women becomes girl stuff. But the characters are likeable, specially Shoko in her now child body,
Yoake mae yori ruriiro na ep3-4 - dear lord, what the heck as happened to the art and animation,Maybe I'm having an anime overload? I'll watch a few more eps though as I don't like to give up on something on the first episode.

She survived because she never took a slashing move her brother uses on all the STRAINS (you'll see **** loads of that in ep3), 1st crash was the debrey from her Lovers STRAIN, hittings hers after he saved her life, 2nd was when her bother knew she wasa piloting the empty STRAIN so he went easy on her by used shooting he gun thing and piecering using something over than the main swords on both arms.
As for a bother turning bad, it certainly got to be something about that girl in the lab he saved, maybe the UNION aren't good guys??
now on to ep3 - death count doesn't slow down thats for sure
we get to see some good action, abit of comedy at the start. trainee STRAIN's getting mashed up by Ralf, Lotti going mad on revenge(looks like she'll survive for now) and GAMBEE pilots being cannon fodder, Isabella death was certainly unglorious death, mugged, screams for help at being taken out already and thrown out into hyperspace to die.... good job Sara wasn't piloting a GAMBEE thats for sure, but instead we get to see a Pink STRAIN and that Mimic has to be the Lab girls mimic, but why can Sara use it when its 1 MIMIC for life and you can't user other peoples... gotten be something in there family's blood. Roll on ep 4.

Well I can't say anything about Yoake since I've yet to sit down and watch it, but I'd bet that Asatte no Houkou is different to the stuff you've been watching so I'm not really sure how the anime overload thing would work against it *shrugs*
For me personally, I thought the first two episodes(as far as I have gotten with the series) were excellent. The characters are excellent as is the atmosphere. The use of music is good, I particularly like that piano piece that plays during certain parts. The voice acting is quite understated and not as over the top as certain shows e.g. compare Karada to some of the girls in Kanon with all their weird squeaks and stuff(which I don't mind btw). Quite a difference, also Karada has so far shown more to her character than some of the girls in Kanon. Compare her with most and she's a world apart even though she falls in to the loli moe bracket same as them, she actually seems to have a brain, I just hope nothing happens now that completely ruins this view I have of her. Now I guess you could say that's because Kanon is set to be longer so they've got more episodes to play with, but I'm only comparing the first two episodes of asatte no houkou to the first 6 episodes of Kanon. I guess it's just more my kind of thing but so far what I've seen has been IMO one of the best new shows. Not that Kanon's bad mind you, far from it. I guess the fanboy inside took exception to the nothing special comment and I felt compelled to respond
Anyway, been watching more Busou Renkin and D.Gray-man. Will be sticking with both for the time being. I thought in both cases the 2nd episodes did enough to keep me watching. I certainly would have marathoned the rest of the episodes I had downloaded if I had the time. Both quite enjoyable if nothing spectacular (not that things always have to be of course).
I guess I should check out Soukou no Strain next. I've got the episodes just not had the time to get round to them. Liking what I'm hearing though, Gunbuster meets stellvia? yes please. I'll have some of that.

Well I rewatched Strain eps 1 and 2 I'm so dense -
at first I thought the girl Ralph took was Sara's MIMIC even though earlier in the episode I understood that those brick things were the MIMICs.

Hooray I'm happy Isabella's dead this show's like a slap in the face to stereotypical charactersSeems too much of a coincidence that Sara was in the same place as both Emily's I hope there's a reason for that and it's not just a "happened to be there" kind of thing. There must be something connected to her family, maybe something her parents were involved in. Really like how they're doing the bullying aspect, I can really feel for Sara during those uncomfortable scenes in her dorm room
There's so much other stuff I've watched I want to comment on but for now I'll just mention Death Note episode 7 -
I was disappointed, first by technical reasons; the sort of live action effect they used of Light and the FBI girl walking down the path was odd I'm not sure I liked it. And even before that scene something felt wrong with the art, Ryuk looked different. It might just be me, I'll watch it again on the back of episode 6 to compare. Secondly, the ending seemed ridiculous, did a noose just appear out of nowhere? How can that happen? I was hoping that it wouldn't work again since he was way over-confident but then of course he'd be rumbled. Stupid woman though, he was acting creepy the whole time she was with him. That whole episode dragged in a nasty tense way but I'm sure that was the point! I'm hoping after the strong start they don't run out of ideas and the deaths get boring. After being able to control when and how people die where can you go from there?

personally i thought it was a great episode, really tense the whole way through. i havent got a clue where its headed, but so far it one of the best things i've seen in ages.
the noose
now I've read some discussion about the episode. This episode is getting excellent reviews but it bugged me a lot,
the FBI girl shouldn't have fallen into Light's trap so easily with giving him her name. I'm sure that was supposed to show how clever he is but he wasn't doing a good job in that episode. He was suspicious and creepy the whole time, there's no way I'd believe a high school kid was in the investigation so an ex-FBI agent definitely shouldn't have done.
I do think it's a great show though and would recommend it to anyone.
