Anyway, thanks for the links, Tobal, I'll be sure to read the novels once I'm done with the series, which so far (just watched ep. 6) is not only really funny, but also remarkably clever -- a rare feat for a comedy show.
I keep spotting subtle references -- e.g. the book Yuki lends to Kyon is (a Japanese edition of) Dan Simmons's "Hyperion". There couldn't be a more appropriate choice than a multiple-timeline novel where people experience paranormal events and face god-like entities with no clear purpose
. Also, the fact that both Haruhi and Kyon are correct when announcing the next episode's number (Kyon gives the broadcasting order, whereas Haruhi gives the chronological order) is praise-worthy.
