I seem to remember an anime about Shougi (Sorta like Japanese chess), never watched it
Plot
Shion no Ō centers around a young junior-high school girl named Shion Yasuoka who witnesses the murder of her parents as a child. At the time of the murder, the killer takes the king piece from her father's shogi board (a Japanese strategy board game similar to chess). This leads her to believe that the murderer may be a shogi player. The shock of the incident renders Shion unable to speak, forcing her to communicate by writing on a pad. After being adopted by her neighbors, the Yasuoka family (where the husband is also a shogi player), Shion takes up the game herself, both for the love of the game and to possibly learn who killed her parents.

re: Clannad 22. I'm not saying it wasn't rushed. I'd definitely have liked more episodes devoted to Nagisa's arc. Just that the events that transpired didn't seem to be any more or less convenient than those in the earlier "more dramatic" arcs, IMO etc. And that for me they had the desired effect in that I was feeling all the "right" emotions as I was watching.
My comparisons with other Key shows are probably disingenuous since I've only seen Kanon (and just the 2006 version) and now Clannad. AIR will fall shortly I hope. But I say that about everything...
edit:
h2o ep 11-12 - well I'll give them credit for explaining the whole blindness thing. It was pretty similar to the theories I had back then. Okay end to a disappointing show. Don't really want to waste too much time talking about it. Wasted potential is how I'd describe the series in a nutshell. It could have been good, but it didn't turn out like that. I'd give it a 4/10, maybe 5 if I was feeling generous.
edit 2: http://www.nihonreview.com/anime/clannad/ <-- nice little review which I mostly agree with, particularly the closing line, although again that might have to wait until I've seen AIR before I can say it had the least impact.Last edited by Zapp$ter; 24-03-2008, 12:39.

I just watched the Death Note movies the other day and thought how great Death Note really was well, it had everything.
Can anyone recommend anything similar to death note? As I need something a bit darker, with good plot and twists.
On a side note does anyone know anywhere to buy manga in japanese, as I do not have a credit card, as I would like some reading material to learn from.

You should go watch Air though. It's awful/great; awful to watch the sad drama but great because it's done so well.
Rental Magica finale: A fairly weak ending I thought but that may be down to my dislike of Honami.
I really didn't get what the point of Fin was in the end. To fix his eye? Why? I just don't see why he'd go through all that trouble for just that although there was a brief line about him doing it make Itsuki commit a taboo and have to join Opheia.
Overall it was a fairly average series. I thought they were going to go somewhere with the eye in the end but it just sort of trailed off. Still they set it up for a second series if they can convince the directors for it. Remove Honami though please!
Zoku SZS 6-7: More trippy trippy fun. The second segment of episode 6 was amazingly done,
hearing all the cast having to adapt to all the roles was great
and ep 7 was...well, someone said on another board that the best way to enjoy this would be to be smoking something beforehand and I can see why.Mental.
No more for a while though since the anon subber has apparently said eps 8 and 9 are beyond his skills.

R+V ep12 - i thought it was totally stupid, "jesus tsu'k"... why couldn't they have just gone the manga route
H20 ep12 - wtf, is what i give the ending. Certainly not a show i'll be saving on to dvd thats for sure.
KimiKiss ep24 - the end,
well i can easily say i've not hated a main couple more than Mao/Kou, both are dickheads and scumbags to there former partners. At least the Futami/Kaz relationship turned out to be the winner and saviour of the show for me.
True Tears ep 12 -
Noe/Hiromi/Shin things coming to head and it looks like his chosen Noe over his childhood and teenage crush, and the siscon left the frame to... and good ole crazy Noe looking super crazy even with scenes being all over the place. I have no doubt she'll be fine after jumping out of a tree and on to the snow below.

also that second part of ep 6 was brilliant too, hearing half the cast do their own interpretation of the 'has left me in despair' was great, the dream section of 6 was amusing too with kafku taking itoshki's role
