I think this is what put a lot of people off Tsubasa when it was going on in series form; that it wouldn't end. As I've said previously, it does move away from that and has moved into constant plot progression and is probably in it's final stage of the manga.

The thing I enjoy most about the 2 series is that they're so interlinked - there's countless things in tsubasa that tie in with events in 'holic and vice versa and it's great to see these effects.

That said, the 'holic anime is really fantastic adaptation of the manga in bringing it all to life, the demon parade episode being a prime example . A lot like how Mushishi is a manga yet it's so much better when viewing it in motion.

been planning to start this for a while, but the fact ive had a pretty solid supply of hard copy manga to be reading, means ive not got round to it yet, and the fact ive got a pretty big backlog of scantilations due to the same reason but anyways . .

oh and jeff you really should stop wussing out and read Akazukin in its entirety, despite the content, its one of my fav's, prolly due to the ****ed up content
Heh, I have the opposite problem. I fly through manga at a much more rapid rate than I watch anime and because of this I now have a ridiculous number of series where I'm just waiting for the next chapter. The downside being is that I now have nothing good left to read. >_>

I'll try and give TA a try again. I have no real issue about the gore aspect (much) but the creepiness from Red Riding Hood's "desire" was a little too...extreme for me.

On another note, to fill the time I'm considering picking up Nanoha starting from the beginning. Is it in the same vein as stuff like CCS with cheesy heroic lines and such or is there actually any kind of meaningful depth?

Edit: Sorry, didn't mean to make quite such a wall of text.

Nanoha is one of my favourites. its typical magical girl like CCS for about the first half of the first season, then it turns into something quite different. alot of people describe it as things like Magical Girl Gundam, and it is quite abit more like a mech series than a typical magical girl series, there are actually quite a few subtle nods to certain mecha series actually, Subaru is a homage to GaiGaiGar for starters. This image (courtesy of 4chan) may explain it abit better:

and these couple of MAD's should give you a good overview of the first 2 series if your still unsure (2nd series, bar a few moments in Strikers is by far the best):

It starts quite cheesy and sickeningly sweet at times but as the series progresses and as you move onto other seasons there's less of it and the battles get better. I have heard people describe it as mahou shoujo with shounen elements (edit: yeah that's the image I was on about). I guess that's not far from the truth. I haven't seen much of StrikerS to comment on it but for the other two shows I wouldn't really say there's any meaningful depth to them. It's mostly enjoyable action and thats what kept me watching. I wouldn't say it's fantastic (certainly nowhere near the quality of my favourites) but... above average to good I suppose. I'd put in the same bracket as stuff like Rozen Maiden and Mai Hime. And it's not a bad way to waste a few hours. Yet I still remain a fan... go figure.

Ah sounds good. I saw the display pic on anidb for the first series and was a little worried it was too CCS-ish. From the way you're describing it, it sounds like Mai Otome almost; starts off a bit ridiculous and then moves into fairly decent territory. I shall add it to my list post haste!

That said, I really should catch with Shugo Chara now that I started it. Nanoha can't be any chessier than that I guess.

So there is a new series of xxxHolic coming then? If so, thats great.

Just finished watching True Tears. Very emotional stuff. Great ending to a great series, really enjoyed it. I also caught the extra episode of Clannad, which was hillarious, im glad its getting a followup.

And the final episode of Rosario + Vampire was LOL bad.

              Fast moving tonight

Watch Nanoha! i avoided it like the plague a while go due to the Magic girl tags but seeing bits of it in action swayed me over and although i watched them in reverse(S -> A -> Original) there still all worth it. If your stuck for time, watch A's and then Strikers. And Zap go finish Strikers the fights ep15 onwards put most Shounen to shame

also you missed the "Nanoha friend equation", i've lost the pic but it goes

Fight Badguys, get Beat up -> make Friends by beating them in to bloody submission -> Fight real big bad

I might just do that actually. I've been on a bit of a roll now with my anime completion.

Spice and Wolf - Finished this today and I think it's already been said but I'll just repeat. It'll be criminal if this doesn't get another season. Loved it from start to finish and it really did surprise me. It was totally different to what I had originally thought it was going to be. Also features one of the best VA performances that I can remember in recent times and one of the best female characters for me since Shuurei from Saiunkoku. I loved the interaction between the two of them. I could watch that stuff all day long and there were loads of cute little moments in the final few episodes. Like when they redo a scene and do it "properly". Best new series for me and my current number 1 for the year.

True Tears - Nice end to a good show. No real wtf ending

although I did think it was going to be Noe for a fair bit. But in the end I'm not really complaining. They explained things fairly well apart from the whol Shini's mother thing that Tobal mentioned.

There were a lot of twists and turns, drama, crazyness and all that jazz. I thought it was written well and they wrapped things up satisfactorily. Nice animation throughout. Nice music. I'll be looking forward to the next show from these guys most definitely.

Kite Liberator(aka Kite 2) - Well.. it more of the same but without the donkey dicks and hentai. Biggest change is there are space monsters and Sawa the original girl isn't the lead but she is in it(confirming Kite's ending). Animation level is totally insane and a step well above Mezzo DSA 1st ep(shame about the rest), but it kinder lacks a defining action scene from the previous films like Kite's Bathroom scene or Mezzo Forte's bowling alley and it doesn't have ending so there certain to be another 50 min film coming. Still worth a watch if you enjoy that universe.

just finished watching Gantz, and well its left me feeling abit funny, i cant make my mind up about it, there was some nice action scenes, and some interesting character interaction and development

i mean i didnt see all but the main guy dying, after how much they built up kato and kishimoto

, but in the end it just seemed like 26 eps of mindless slaughter and pointless nudity, if anything it seemed to go abit too far with the blood n guts for me, but i cant say why, i mean ive seen Elfin Lied and read Tokyo Akazukin, both outclass gantz in the gore department yet both didnt really affect me, as such im left with this weird feeling, also the fact that even in the end they didnt explain anything bugged me too, was definitely a strange one for me

also found a cool little project that a couple of you may be interested in, some guys are converting visual novels for use on the DS (obviously you'l need a r4 cart or something similar to run em), so far theyve only done Tsukihime, Narcissu and Annons Nice Day, but from what ive heard theres plans to do stuff like planeterium amongst others:

I've not seen Gantz the anime but I've read all but the latest few chapters so I can only imagine the series maybe suffers from a bit of berserk-syndrome where they sort of butcher any meaning the show actually has to give it an ending. I do get what you mean about the mindless violence though; even now I still don't get why it's all happening other than for the sake of it. Perhaps it'll be revealed when they decide to put out some more plot.

On a side note - bloody hell, 340mb for the mkv of the shana finale. Also, Orka, negima 21 got released by Mahora finally! 1 more year for the last few eps I reckon.

Edit: Also, not looking forward to Tokyotosho tomorrow/today with it's spam of april fools. Just as well most series have finished.

yeah i noticed the negima?! (or is it !?, anyways . . .) release, i think ive all but forgotten what (little) is going on in it thanks to mahora's snail subs, thankfully because its a non serious Shaft show it doesnt really matter, unfortunately gigantic formula is suffering the same if not worse treatment

and i almost forgot its April fools day tomorrow, the day when idiots (americans) generally ruin the internet, fansubs etc for 24hours, im sure somebody thought it was funny when they uploaded a carefully disguised OP then 20min rickroll, ah how i hate April fools day on the net

Shana II finale: I'll spoiler all of this so I don't give anything away -

WHAT THE **** WAS THAT ****?! I put up with an entire series of teen romance garbage which was totally unecessary since it had been done in the first series, for a fight which the entire series was building up to, that lasted 1 episode. 1 episode where the ultimate of ultimates is destroyed by breaking one machine. Not even with some ultimate attack either. A single regular slice. Just argh. So much rage.

On the plus side, they finally ****ing sorted out that Shana likes Yuji and Yuji likes Shana although they kept it stupidly vague. I'm also slightly miffed that Yoshida didn't die but I guess that was to be expected.

If they get a 3rd series (which I hope they do despite this), they need to get some ****ing plot going. More of the same kind of quality stuff we got with the assassin fight would have been just what the show needed.

Edit: I apologise for the rage filled outburst.

I would avoid DB bleach movie for sure

As for Gantz its best to read the manga as kei becomes so damned Hardcore after the buddha mission cos of the crap Gantz keeps dropping him in to it starts to involve the outside world instead of playing out inside the "game world". As for the manga itself i thinks it lost it way since starting 'act 2' and the show just isn't the same.

                              shana s2 24:

pretty much exactly as i predicted last week, stupid ****ty anime original ending:

without some major revisions / backtracking or them making up a new anime original arc to turn yuji into ball masque bad ass yuji, that could go horribly wrong due to that **** ending, there's no chance in hell of carrying on with the novel storyline if they do get a 3rd series, up to that final battle is was fairly in line with the novels (plus added team drama), but theyve just thrown that out the window now, the ending would have been a million times better if theyd gone with the novels, instead of that ****; we've destroyed the giant enemy tomogara and everyone lived happily ever after ****, at least the s1 ending had alastair in his true form kicking some ass, this had nothing

i could prolly rant for quite abit more but i id just end up going round in circles

Unless it's a fairly convincing april fools, it looks like there's going to be a second season of Rasario + Vampire in October.

If this turns out to be a true and we still don't get a Spice and Wolf second series, I'll be left in despair (SZS style) by humanity.
