It is made by the same guy(ODA!!!) so the art style will look the same and so should the feel for the way he tells a story.

It's not Oda. It's a different guy writing it, Hiro Mashima. Most notably he did Groove Adventure Rave. They have a similar art style so it probably will look similar. Not every mangaka has a distinct style.
Anyway the series is decent from what I've read (up to volume 6) but as yet hasn't had its own Arlong Park arc yet to elevate it to the same level as One Piece.

i know certain styles are similar or draw inspiration from one another, but if i looked at that pic i would have straight away assumed it was drawn by Oda. he has a very distinct visual style and this guy is clearly ripping it off.
not that this means it will be bad or anything, im just stunned at how similar they are

Couple of more new shows;
Aoi Hana: Agree with Tobal that it's very Honey and Cloverish in style. Quite enjoyed the slow pace though. Need a few more episodes to set the characters upa bit more though.
Taisho Yakyuu Musume: Couldn't handle this. It reminds me a lot of Telepathy Shoujo Ran; Very childishly adorable but ultimately very simple. Just couldn't get into it and ended up skipping vast chunks of it. Not for me.
Edit: 2 more points about Umineko. If you download the gg release make sure you don't have the spoiler filled "vn players" sub track on.
And for anyone wishing to play the 4 episodes of the vn that have been released and translated, here's a post I swiped from 4 chan explaining where to get it and how to play: link.
One final point, if you're having trouble downloading the Eureka SeveN movie torrent, here's it uploaded in 9 parts on megaupload.Last edited by Mr.Jeff; 04-07-2009, 13:08.

It's the same characters and setting but with an alternate storyline;
The war between humanity and the “Image”, a mysterious life form from space, has already spanned half a century.
In the year 2054, there is a boy on board the Gekko, the mother ship of the 303rd Independent Horde under the command of Holland Novak. His name is Renton and his dream is to ride into battle on his Nirvash. He has resolved to one day rescue Eureka, his childhood friend who was kidnapped 8 years ago, and to return home.
But fate decides to test the love between Eureka and Renton and puts them through many trials. Duty and emotion, truths and lies, past and future, life and death, reality and dreams, and Holland. The entire world blocks their path. As the final battle with the Image approaches, the pair open the doorway to becoming legends.
there was a tighter focus on Renton and Eureka and them being in love with each other than in the series but I felt the plot was a bit too rushed for the time allowed by a movie. Especially towards the end, it leaves a lot of seemingly unanswered questions and poor resolutions which brings it down a bit.
Overall though it wasn't bad.
Also, Needless ep 1: I shouldn't be enjoying this as much as I am. It's so brainlessly stupid and entertaining I can't help but enjoy it somehow. It gives me the feeling of Busou Renkin did of not taking itself too seriously. But still, what the heck is with that ED?
Edit 2: Canaan ep1: Very polished series. Lots of action and shooting but not so much on the explanations unfortunately but no doubt it'll get explained as the series goes on. One to keep an eye on.Last edited by Mr.Jeff; 05-07-2009, 16:44.

Saw Canaan. Incredible production values but very little to set it apart aside from the stunning visuals. Synaesthesia as a plot device could be interesting if done in a believable way.
Once a plot gets established, it'll be easier to judge wether it's another Noir/Madlax but with a big budget or something great like Black Lagoon.

Noir was ok back in the day
Sengoku Basara ep11/12 - another finished, pretty much carried on ignoring the factual history of the warstates and just have stuff blowing up everywhere much like Transformer2. The last episode just felt a bit rushed for everything outside of Oda Nobunaga vs Yanada and Date, like the Oda's sister and his wife ending and those 2 other state leaders turning up. Anyway i enjoyed the crap out of this and am looking foward to more next year.

watched Hajime no ippo 25
what was the point of that episode - just gash
Full metal Alchemist brotherhood ep14
seems the manga is now totally different and the story is changing from the anime
King bradley is awesome and this is just a guess but it looks like Hohenheim is the bad guy or someone that looks similar to him (Elric brothers father) and they state that the whole family is there, but sloth doesn't seem to be trisha elric anymore and pride hasnt made an appearance even though its king Bradleys son. Also the massive change in this episode is the death of Greed
for anybody thats got the Manga, care to elaborate on the changes

Ah, I think I see.
If you mean the main differences, the main homunculus characters are the same but their creation/eistence is different from S1
Alchemy is slightly different and the philospher's stone is less of a driving force for the story.
Several of the characters have some fairly major changes in personality to how they acted in S1
I think that's kinda what you're after. Essentially though, it's just a totally different direction for the storyline than the first series while keeping some of the major points like the characters and some of their historys.

Needless ep1 - hahahaha, this is my replacement for Queens Blade... its like like TTGL meets Scryed and that ending credits certainly = wtf
Saint Seiya Lost Canvas - not sure what to make of it, the story and fighting seem classic Saint Seiya but the art feels nothing like the old shows... i was hoping for more of what they did during Hades and Elysion OVA's. Can't win them all.
Clannad After extra(Kyou ending) - Certainly didn't have the the length needed to make something out the story but even then it probably would have been wasted effort.
Short hair Kyou is not a good look, but emo crying Kyou is
. Still wish they had written a new story for her as it seems at massive odds to her character from season 1.
Suzumiya Haruhi S2(ep2-4)-have they got some balls to pull 3rd "repeat" like that, wonder if they'll do a fourth.... Still good stuff but they need to move the story on instead of trolling there fans.
