I finished watching Gankutsuou this morning, hot damn, I was hooked from the 1st episode-it's shot right up into my list of favourite animes. There were endless twists and turns and it was truly magnificent seeing the whole story come together
Thankfully Geneon have picked it up so it should get damn good R1 treatment

Gankutsuou's a cracking series, varied enough so that those familiar with the story of The Count of Monte Cristo have something fresh to look forward to, and at the same time, equally rewarding for those not familiar. Once you get past the bizzarre art style, it really does keep you on the edge of your seat.

I've been spoiled by Gankutsuou now, as it was so good that I'm finding more "traditional" anime series to be quite dull both visually and thematically. The Count was a fantastic character, brilliantly performed (if anyone is watching the current Transformers Galaxy Force - the seiyuu is also doing the voice for Master Megatron!) with a execellent supporting cast. The only downside for me was that cringe-worthy Jean-Jaques brunel song
Still not much to see this season. Trinity Blood is good, the political aspect of the show is still the best part. Speed Grapher has slowed down, and they can't seem to handle the "powered villan of the week" bit with as much style as Getbackers did.
If you havent seen it already I'd reccomend the subbed Paranoia Agent, Gilgamesh or Last Exile - all of which have a similar qulaity to Gankutsuou.

Gilgamesh is sickeningly nuts and the ending, not a way i'd like to bow out ><
Last Exile has the setting/sounds and graphics and some likeable characters but its story is just so slow and the 'main' characters never really do anything, but then i watched all becuase i love Huge Airship's battling it out.

School Rumble ep22 = GOD OF ANIME, anything that combines 3man Horse+fighting+cute girls and Pro Wrestling wins in my book.
GO KARIN, GO ERI
also...
Akane Maniax ep2 totally rocked, total insane comedy fluff with completely loveable characters that had me laughing all the way, only 1 more ep to go ;_; worth watching even if you have seen it's sister anime the Hentai game turned serious love story that is Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien.Last edited by Tobal; 01-06-2005, 19:47.

Originally posted by ZanzaAt first I thought the music was terrible and totaly out of place, but its definately grown on me. "We Were Lovers" (the intro) is second only to the very ending song of the final episode, not sure of the name, but I really like Jean-Jaques style.
Wasn't that just the extended version of "We Were Lovers"?
Is anybody else watching Eureka 7 at the moment? I wasn't too sure about it to begin, what with sky-surfing robots, but I'm really feeling it now; also didn't realise the opening theme's by FLOW who did one of the Naruto themes.

No the end track is another track completely, It might not of been the very last song in the last episode, but it was classic Jean-jaques style. The song im thinking about is the one that is playing in the background of this flash animation:
On another note, I just watched the first two episoded of Leiji Matsumoto's Galaxy Express, and its gripping stuff, definately recommend it.

I'll have to resume watching Gankutsuou at some point, I dropped it around ep. 15 for no reason at all.
As far as songs are concerned, I must admit I'm a big fan of "You Won't See Me Coming" (ED theme) -- especially with the accompanying graphics, which rock beyond belief.
I reckon this JJ Burnel guy is really good (and hey, he's French -- you can't go wrong with one off my fellow countrymen)... Has he done anything else in anime?
