Baseley: You mean, you don't know what fansubs are?

Okay, the basic idea is that people bought the DVDs when they came out in Japan (or recorder the show when it aired on TV, or whatever), then ripped them (top-quality DivX/XviD/whatever), translated the dialogue into English, made the result into some subtitles whose quality kicks the HK bootlegs so hard it's not even funny anymore, and released the result over the Internet.

If you have Bittorrent ( http://bitconjurer.org/BitTorrent/ ), you can find torrents for fansubs of Macross Zero at http://a.scarywater.net/anbu (er... Am I authorized to post this link?).

Fansubs, AFAIK, are in a legal "grey area", but are tolerated by most anime companies as long as distribution is ceased when the series is licensed for distribution in the USA/UK (IOW if someone announces that they'll be officially releasing the series in a country that speaks a language you can understand, stop distributing and buy the DVDs when they come out).

And no matter what, you shouldn't buy HK bootlegs. Paying for pirate stuff is very, very wrong IMO.

OK thanks for the info, I thought it might involve me ripping my DVDs then patching them or something, I guess the files are pretty fat ill scope some out in the future.

As for HK bootlegs, well im not exactly bothered, though im a hypocrtitcally precious over over stuff. Guess just whatever suites at the time really.

Usually, a standard 26-minute episodes weighs between 150 and 200 megs, depending on the image quality and the quantity of on-screen action. Macross Zero are about 40 minutes per episode though, so the ones I have weigh around 350 megs each.

Hey, we MAY have ep11 out by the end of today. However, much bigger things are afloat, I shall give you the scoop when the time comes.

Macross Zero is a fine piece of work isn't it. I absolutely loved it. The sequence where the VF0 transforms for the first time is drool worthy.

Yesterday was a busy day for fansubs being released, with Air, GSD and Negima all being released.

Negima is going OK I suppose. They should really have called Asuna "Naru" and be done with it. She's a straight copy personality wise of Naru from Love Hina (likewise Nodoko with Shinobu). Lucky I read the manga about two days ago and know It gets better

GSD looks like it's finally starting to get into high gear again. I was starting to wonder If Stellar and those stolen Gundams had been forgotten. Recap episode next week though.

Air is just ace as always. It's so relaxed and interesting at the same time. Potato is one of the greatest dogs commited to Anime. Music is fantastic too. Looks like Kano

is possesed by a spirit of some sort.

Really want to play the game now.

Oh and it seems the Beck manga has been licensed.

So very true. A Varitech transforming in slow-motion is the one thing every Macross Fan has always dreamt of watching. The whole series is breathtaking, animation-wise, but this scene is just... Wow. Genre-defining.

I for one will be picking up the real DVDs as soon as they're released.

On a semi-related topic, this Saturday I bought Macross Plus on DVD. It had been a while since I last watched it, but it still r0xx0rZ an incredible amount of b0xx0rZ. Nice story, lovable characters including a cool AI (not as cool as Shodan, but hey), top-notch animation and music by Yoko Kanno ('nuff said). It rules.

Meanwhile, in Gundam Seed Destiny, the plot thickens. Can't wait to see Minerva and Archangel fighting alongside each other. (although unfortunately, next episode seems to be a "what's happened so far..." ep. Too bad.)

Love Macross Plus too, it was my route in to the Macross universe. Did you pick up the box set. I have to say I was a little dissapointed with the movie in terms of the transfer and the fact it's just an abridged version of the series.

Yeah, I did pick up the box set. Haven't looked at the movie yet, but I probably will at some point. Something tells me that by cutting scenes they must have introduced some plot holes, ne?
(and the movie format also means that we don't get to hear "After, in the Dark", which can't be a good thing )

What does everyone think of the other new shows?

Starship Operators - Extremely messed up if you asked plot wise, there's really no need for them to fight and get killed, 30 cadets watch their Home planet give into the Kingdom("badguys") and they go off to fight a 1 ship war in quite realistic way, while selling the rights to their battles for cash from the TV company, who orders them to get into fights for reality Tv, its pure madness. Animation and sound are above average, and im interested in how well the ship on ship battles are worked out.

Jinki Extend - Enjoyable first show, though demon/animal mecha things seem a little off.

Mahoraba Heartful Days - not watched yet, certainly mean to.

Space Symphony Maetel - old style art(almost Space Cobra style) featuring humans vs Cyborgs, not much to it yet outside the human rebels and whatnot, might keep with it.

and Genshiken ep10, and as funny as the others but watching his sister and Saki fight, and then them trying to do 'Convention'. Also his sisters reaction to the Hentai was really funny.

About Macross Plus, id had the movie before but upon getting the box set dvds i felt bumped that the movie was just an edited summary.......tbh most of it was their afaik, didnt feel it missed anything.

Love it but Macross 2 is where I live.

About Zero tho, im a little confused. I'd assumed that the technology (Veritech fighters) was formed from the salvage of the crashed SDF, but Zero is set before this incident? I mustve got it wrong unless they are re-writing things.

Its set after the the SDF crash lands i think, while everyones waring over the technology hidden inside. Before the aliens turn up.
