Hey guys, I've been kinda out of the loop on the fansubs for a while now (still watching Naruto and One Piece though). Are there any recent must-see series that are floating around or does anybody know of any thing big coming this Autumn? Got a fair bit of free-time coming up so would like something to sink my teeth into.

Two not mentioned that I'm liking is Bokurano which reminds me of NGE with it's seperate attacks by a big robot each time, kids doing the piloting and controversial issues surrounding them.
And Lovely Complex which is just a school romcom but must have something for me to carry on watching it.

Just finished Bakumatsu whatever. A pretty good series overall, especially after the name-dropping calms down somewhere in the middle. I still think it'd have been better with a smaller cast -- the English spies, among others, were completely useless and could have been discarded without any effect on the plot.
Still, it has some nice dramatic twists (
Kakunojo stabbing Youjiro somewhat reminded me of Spike falling through the church's window in Cowboy Bebop -- nowhere near as cool, but then again what is?
), great-looking episodes toward the end (it's a rather high-budget anime and it shows), and to integrate supernatural elements into real-world history characters and events remains an awesome idea.
If anything, it prompted me to read a couple of Wikipedia pages on the Bakumatsu period, which I found fascinating. Knowing myself, I'll end up spending the whole night doing so.
Why is it that we Europeans don't get to have such a brilliant history? Why do we always have to have the crap wars where we fight like morons (remember, I'm French -- I'm from the country that in 1914 had the genius idea of sending people to war, in the snow, wearing ****ing red and blue arctic camouflage)?
In all fairness, though, we did get the original supervillain back in '39. Can't let the Japanese have them all. Someone ought to make a show where old Adolf turns out to be possessed by a demonic moustache that gives him sound-based superpowers, fueled by the drinking of kosher kitten blood.

Totally off topic
I would say Europe has way a bigger history than Japan, and equal to East Asia(pretty much reading wiki all day at work). Even if you look recent history the British Empire was the largest Super power, followed by Mongolans and there plenty of heroes and sicko's in both of them to put japan to shame.
read war nerd, he occasional puts up forgotton wars of the past instead of talking about current stuff, Good read.

Gurren-Lagann ep26 - OMG the ending half to that episode
had holding back the tears when 'real' Kamina turned up it was so dam moving. And then saving Nia just at the end in the nick of time. Also we found who the yellow sunglasses guy was at last, not to surprising but it was pretty cool when bunta evolved.
One more week till the final episode

Yep. Pretty much took the words right out of my mouth so to speak. I'd also add that I found some of the
Alternate realities of the characters, especially Viral's and Yoko's,
quite touching. One more ep left and as long as there isn't too much wtfness in it I think/hope it'll end on a high note.

Oh yeah, while looking for info the other day I came across this:
Originally posted by Zapp$ter View PostAlso not sure if anyone is interested but the same groups that have finished Paradise Kiss have released a sub of the first episode of Gokinjo Monogatari. I mentioned it a couple of pages back I believe. It's basically a prequel to Paradise Kiss and focuses on the early years of Miwako's sister and her future husband. It's about 10 years old so don't expect the same level of eye candy that was in Paradise Kiss IMO. Not seen it myself but I'm looking forward to it.
How many years are supposed to be between the 2 sisters? Miwako doesn't appear in this and her sister is already 16.
Thanks for mentioning it all those months ago anyway, it's funny seeing it after all this time. It prompted me to find and finish off Komodo no Omocha as I was a fan of that at the time as well, don't think I'd have got into it now but the nostalgia factor pulls me back.

Series ending bananza.
Kaze No Stigma ep24 - Left open ended, and the pat on the ass was well funny. To bad the final fight really didn't do much, just opened to the gateway to another series. All in all its been pretty good with the main reason for watching(for me) being Kazuma and Ayano's relationship.
Toward The Terra ep24 - suprisied how bloody the finial episode ended up being.
Wasn't expecting all the main cast to die, but then there hands had been stained in to much blood for them to welcome future i guess(but Tony was equally as bad). The twist at the end about the mu factor being left alone so thr SD project could see if there the ones to replace humans and there greed.
Zero no Tsukaima S2 - ep12 - shame it was another short season.
Last episode was pretty good with Saito going out to be a 'hero' and the marriage bit. Hopefully it was just a translation error but that 7 million army is totally stupid number for an army, if they had that many to begin with Tristan would never have stepped foot in there country. Still it was great watching Saito kick major ass(even after all that "i won't kill" stuff) and felt the could have left a bigger impact leaving Saito's is he/isn't he dead hanging till when season3 is ready. Something like having the flower glow at the end giving Louise hope that he might be alive, instead of him showing up at the school gates and say a fariy with big tits saved him from dying.
Claymore ep24-26 - Hmmm, i just don't understand why they went with this direction, i assumed there would be a complete ending but then for them leave it open ended anyway, it just doesn't make any sense. While i enjoyed the final fight and it copied the Jean part from the manga, there was way to much Raki being annoying. Anyway it was worth watching even with the dud ending, and for those who haven't read the manga, go do so.Last edited by Tobal; 26-09-2007, 17:25.

In other news, I've obtained and just started watching a 2006 show called The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya -- I don't remember anyone talking about it here. 3 episodes in and it's a riot (episode 1, among some WTF moments, had me rolling on the floor laughing), not to mention that the show's premise (which hasn't been revealed in the eps I've watched but which I've read about on Wikipedia) is utterly brilliant. I'll write about it in more detail if anyone's interested.

Also once you done with the all the episode go read the novels, you'll love every bit of as it is better than the anime. http://www.baka-tsuki.net/

Yeah. In 2006 Haruhi was one of the shows we talked about most here, especially as afk were releasing the subs very quickly after airing and in most cases on a weekly basis. No idea how you managed to miss that (Lurk MoAr ?). For me it was the biggest surprise of the year regarding anime shows. Knew very little about it beforehand and by the end of the series was completely in love with it.Last edited by Zapp$ter; 27-09-2007, 08:05.
