Outrageous new Ebay fees hidden in "VAT change"!

Squirrelled away in the release about changing VAT rates on eBay ... they are DOUBLING the final value fee for Video Games (and books, music, DVDs etc)!!

FVFs will now be 9% - and they try to pass this off as a "saving" by "assuming" that items have to be relisted an average of 2-3 times before they sell. This really honestly takes the piss.

Makes even more sense nowadays to just avoid selling on fleabay and do all your games selling on ntsc

Judging by what I get in my postbag every day that's because those are the most commonly sold items on eBay. It's bloody arrogant and unnecessary if you ask me. It's not like ebay is strapped for cash or anything, the return they get for what must be a relatively small investment is just huge.

One thing that concerns me is that most of the price books used by indie stores, GameStation etc to price their second-hand games use eBay as a ready-reckoner for the going rate. It's just like the Financial Times of video games for them, as it gives them both the prices buyers are willing to pay and some idea of supply and demand.

Oh yeah, nearly forgot to mention this too:

            "Reserve Fee Refunds
We will no longer refund Reserve Fees if an item sells."

That one's for everything, by the way.

What a joke. It's much more than double for expensive items now, I've only been billed for £3.84 Final Value Fees with a £99.99 item this week. 9% + Paypal fees?

edit: I usually wait for cheap listing days anyway. No point in that now

I never read that far down when I got that email from eBay. I just saw the 5.summat% bit. So now it looks like theyre almost doubling it! FFS!!

It really pisses me off that just because DVDs & games are sold a lot on eBay that they're taking advantage (& taking the piss!) of the situation.
As has been said earlier, eBay are making a packet as it is due to the amount of people selling the items in question, so why do this?

I can see business sellers who use eBay going out of business because of this.
Most of the stuff I sell are DVDs or games so I'll just have to use the cheap listing days too.
By the way, have u noticed that in the last yr or so theres been a huge amount of cheap listing days compared to the 4ish a yr they used to have? I think that eBay were losing trade & so had to do summat to entice sellers back on. Well, by placing this 9% FVF bollocks on DVDs & games they'd better be careful because there'll be no one using it soon.

Now I can see why sellers list an item at a buy it now of 99p & then charge £25 for postage. U sell an item for 99p, therefore the FVF would only be 9p. I think its a good idea personnaly as u get more people viewing your item due to its low price, then when they see that the postage amount + the cost of the item basically matches or is slightly less than the price others are selling their items for you'll still get a sale. Its just another way to avoid eBays **** FVFs.
The problem is that buyers are being encouraged by eBay to bubble sellers that use huge postage fees.

And yet again its the seller that always seems to suffer, not the buyer.

Not really an eBay question per se, but has anyone used the Royal Mail's online postage thing before? I want to send some stuff I've sold recorded, so it has to be signed for. I can print that postage, but will there be owt else to do at the Post Office when I take it along? One o' those little orange slips? Will I get any kind of tracking ref? Really hate spending an hour at the Post Office holding everyone up so I'd like to know if this avoids it entirely or if I'm wasting my time doing it online because I'll end up filling forms in anyway!

I see what eBay are playing at now.
Theyre pulling this **** in March to bump up their sales & share value at the end of the tax yr, thus hoping to entice more people to invest.

So we have to suffer just so eBay can get more investors. Bloody marvelous eh!

Ebay have announced a ban on sales of imaginary virtual items from online games. Wonder affect that will have on item value in-game....

I got a warning from eBay last night about my improper conduct. Apparently its a "serious breach" of their T&Cs for me to go on to their help forum and post a question asking if a certain listing I'm considering bidding on is legal or not.

I guess this is because they don't want other people to then see that listing and if it is out of order, to start putting ridiculously high bids in.

                        Unbelievable.

Call me cynical but I say they just don't want to discourage bidding on anything, legal or not, because they get their percentage whatever happens.

Just got screwed by some dude who has claimed a non receipt of item on Paypal. Its the old, no recorded postage method was used, therefore the seller is liable to refund crap. Should have expected this when I saw he had zero feedback.

Has anyone ever managed to get out of this situation before without have to pay, there seems to be no way to dispute it on their system now thats he's made a claim?

If the item was worth ?32 or under you can claim for it with Royal Mail. But don't hold your breath waiting for the compensation.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but that's a reduction in FVF's and insertion fees...
