Yeah, I enjoyed it too. Good stuff from the Renaults and interesting the way performance was see-sawing between the Red Bulls and McLarens. Shame about Alonso's botched overtake!

Terrible, the best bit was Petrov doing a Knight Rider and Alonso being a dick as usual.

Instead of trying to turn F1 into mario kart, poison Bernie should just install a system of giving each team a set of simple front and rear wings that apply downforce with out massively spoiling the air. Also make the cars more powerful while lowering downforce.

F1 used to be full of talent designers backup by gifted mechanics, now it's just a procession of middle class uni engineers with a stern faced hard edged corporate fake image.

The sport is only entertaining when things go wrong, last season was seen as a good season because of that factor.

I gave up on F1 a few seasons back after around 15 or so years of avid watching. I now watch occasionaly, including
todays race. I thought it was okay. Not really being verbose, I'd sooner watch F1 than scumchester utd tho.

Hoping to get to a circuit in the EU...one day....perhaps I'm not as given up on it as I'd like to think.

I'm holding out for the turbos next season which may make them an on/off car to drive with the power coming from the boost.

Senna did more work in that one lap than the modern corporate advertising drivers do in a season

Enjoyed the race. Lots of action throughout the field. DRS was pretty much spot on this weekend. Aided the flow of the race without giving anyone an unfair advantage.

Surprised Hamilton pitted with a few laps left. Even if they started to drop off he wouldn't have lost as much time as he did in the pit.

I think there's already a plan on the table to ditch the giant wings but allow them to use ground effect instead (which is currently banned). Same sort of grip levels, but the airflow is totally different.

Sounds like a great idea for once, drop kers as well and bring back the side shifters. Also lets see the fully independent computer controlled ride hide and suspension come back. I want showers of sparks.

Don't know how people can say that was a terrible race, I thought it was actually pretty good! Yeah there were a few easy over takes with DRS (and some brilliant ones, webber on...massa? was sublime) but I'd rather lose count of the number of overtakes than be talking about all the cars finishing in the same order they started.

                    @adamcooperf1 Adam Cooper
#F1 Hamilton has been given a 20 secs penalty

#F1 It drops him to eighth behind Kobayashi. It's for moving more than once while defending his position.

#F1 Alonso got a 20 secs penalty too for causing a collision but it doesn't make any difference as Lewis has his own penalty!

I've personally found best way to enjoy F1 is watch the hour before the race then switch over or go out after the first lap.

I get to see all the sexy stuff and watch none of the tedious racing bit. Works for me.

I enjoyed that race too. I assumed Hamilton's closing stages pit stop was his idea, so he could point somewhere else to explain why he wasn't going to win. Git.

The KERS thing has completely gone over my head, my Japanese isn't good enough to understand the explanations they have given. What is it? I understand the other one, is it DRS? Pops up a flap in the rear wing to reduce air resistance but can only be used sparingly, right? So what's KERS?

                        Comment

DRS can be used on certain section of the track only and only by the car behind if within 1sec of the car in front. KERS is the battery boost system that stores energy from the brakes, and has a limited use per lap. think of it as the boost button from F-Zero. If the car behind deploys the DRS, the car in front can use KERS to defend but not the DRS. The problem is the rules are so artificial. Alonso's DRS failed when attacking Hamilton for example, so he was penalised for a regulatory issue in a sense as he would have breezed by if it was working. F1 needs to realise that it's not Mario Kart. KERS is ok as it can be used at any point so requires tactical use by the drivers, but DRS is a gimmick. Dump it or let them use it freely, like KERS.

Ah, so not quite what I thought then. How do they enforce that DRS can only be used in certain places? Is it like Death Race 2000 and the race directors turn it on and off remotely?

The FIA nominate one straight in the race where it can be used. Use is quite strict though - only if one second behind the car in front, cannot use to defend a position and as soon as you use the brake it closes. Can only use it after two laps also.

I agree it is getting gimmicky but I prefer this over the crazy situation a few years ago where cars five seconds faster than the one in front were unable to pass.
