Yeah, actually 172lbs right now after dinner. I've been on an extreme protein intake the past two months or thereabouts, reaching almost 300grams per day. I've become extremely lean and ripped when warmed up yet I still look skinny with clothes on. I'm trying to go for the Trent Reznor look, and not the Brad Pitt from Snatch look as I'm quite tall and need to widen out. I'm currently thinking the protein+ diet is for fat people trying to get into shape and the carb+ diet is for hard gainers.

Cheers for the creatine advice, I'll see how I go this month and give the powder a bash next month regardless.

i think modifying carb intake is the key when trying to gain mass

Obviously ones needs the baseline covered for protein and ramping it up whilst decreasing carbs has shown to be effective at shedding fat whilst holding on to muscle

If you have a long frame and have trouble filling out i say jack up carbs as you are - even have a day at 3 or 4 grams per lbs bw (say a sunday) so keep you going throughout the week and dontshy from fat

And stick to compound exercises - deads, cleans, pulls, weighted chins, leg work etc

Hopefully I can knock 5 mins off that by race day - that's my goal anyway. Seems realistic.
Did 37.07 this morning , so 3/5 of my goal done already. Might have to push that goal a little closer to 33 mins. Still felt like loads more to give, but my legs are still slowing me down. Average heartrate was 171 which is erm... fairly high, but it didn't feel like it - always had enough puff.

Just whey protein is good for losing weight as well mate. I'd stick with just that for 2-3 months before looking into creatine. I've been on creatine ethyl ester (pills) for this month before giving the powder a chance which could have saved me some cash. It's safe for vegetarians, and even vegans from reading the ingredients here.

Here's a topless pic of me finally from last night. Half way towards my goal! This is probably the hardest I've ever looked, mainly because of my sideys more than my muscles...

I think the chest hair needs to go next.

i've been going to the gym practically everyday for the last (i know its not good but its mainly cardio work outs) several months and i'm trying not to temp my self to buy a tub of whey protein since i want a good ol fashion work out to get phsyically into shape but to those who do use brands like maximuscle or cyclone etc have you experienced that by using such a whey protein product it makes the workout to build and strenghten muscles faster?

Looking for a bit of advice.

I'm a skinny leak, and am wanting to tone a little bit. I don't have the finances to go to the gym, and my university course is too hectic anyway. However, I feel I may as well do what I can myself in my room.

I've been doing push-ups several times a day since November. Started doing about 4 or 5 sets of 10 pushups daily, before kicking that up to sets of 20 in December when that became easy. There has been a noticable improvement, my arm muscles (small as they are) are pretty damn firm these days. Wondering if there's anything else I can do, especially with regard to stomach muscles.

I did start doing situps for a while, but I gather they're supposed to be bad for your back, so I stopped doing them. Anyone one have anything to say about this? Even dietry advice is appriciated.

As I say, I'm not really looking to bulk up (it's not so bad lacking weight...), just put on a bit of muscle and 'tone' etc.

Do crunches, not situps. After 15 good crunches, you should be unable to continue. 2 lots of those every day or every other day if you are hurting. Keep tummy button pulled in towards spine otherwise pointless.

No such thing as tone. Either you are gaining muscle or losing fat or both.

You need to find a book called 'Solitary Fitness' by Charles Bronson (the prisoner), I have a mate who hardly eats properly and doesn't go to the gym but he's pretty buff from reading that book alone.

In the meantime try out slow down/fast up push-ups. Count 5 secs going down (exhale) and 1 sec going up (inhale). Elevate your feet off the ground and also concentrate on the middle of your chest, remember to keep breathing properly. Do each set until failure.

And crunches as Charles says... These have to be done properly or you might as well not bother:

7 days a week is too much man, you need to give your body time to rest and build rather than ripping it everyday. Cut it down to 4/5 days and work each set of muscles on different days. Weigh yourself in pounds and that will tell you how much protein to eat each day, you need between one and one and a half grams of protein to each pound of body weight. Use protein to top up your intake. Best time drink it is with breakfast, after workout and with supper. You will also need slightly more carbs than protein if you are skinny like me for both energy and bulk. Concentrate on fruit and wholegrains for carbs, and chicken/fish for proteins. Your 5 a day fruit and veg will be nuked with that, I'm on something like 12-15 a day even when I don't try.

so , would you suggest whey protein to go woth a calorie diet of about 800-1000 cal a day, and i dont really feel tierd or that hungry,
how many times a day would i take it? is it a power you mix with a drink?

would it be advisable to take whey and creatine at the same time? to loose weight and put on more muscle?

i think i can loose 2 stone more, should i wait till then?

                        are these any good http://www.hollandandbarrett.com/pag...ies.asp?cid=71

                        what im doing atm
4 hours of basketball a week
                        rowing 1 hour plus
2-3 mile light jog 3 times a week
30 mins of wii fit 4-5 times a week

im looking into the shop holland and barret as they have offers on supliments , and there is a shop in my town, could someone pick me out what i need please? or reccomend elsewhere,, there are caps? and powder which is best, and it it completly calorie free?

You are doing all that on 1000 cals a day?

Just off the top of my head your exercise alone must be coming in at around 6000 cals a week. Your weight must be dropping like a stone but doesn't sound sustainable at all, if you are not feeding your body enough cals (2200 - 2500 for a normal bloke) it will use whatever sources it can - that will be fat AND muscle.

How long have you been doing this routine?

hi, about 2 months,, lost 2 stone . now its dropped right down tho the rate tho , im not a really fat person, im well built , big frame, im allot fitter than i was after christmas,

yes i can quite easliy do 1000c a day, and do all the listed above.
thats why i would like to know if fat burner metaboliser and creatine suppliments would help me boost fat burning and build on muscle??
                            ones like theses http://www.hollandandbarrett.com/pag...il.asp?pid=547

creatine will not make you gain fat - thats comes about when calories consumed > calories expended

creatines action is to draw muscles into the cells so if any initial weight gain occur/muscle size increase its due to the water retention

creatine should however increase strength which leads to muscle gains
