I've got a 5 mile run on may day which i'm woefully underprepared for

      How did it go then?

I'm now up to 12 st 2 lbs, and I started at 11 st back about 2 months ago, So I'm so very happy with the results. All pure muscle too. Gym 3 times a week for a proper hard 2 hour workout and 2 games on badminton, basketball and squash every week too. Feeling and looking so much better and fuller now.

Even though my aim is to be putting weight on its still difficult, cant just eat anything you want, staying away from anything fatty, and I'm managed quite well on that front too. Just taking loads of carbs and then lots of protein after workouts.

Along with my protein supplements, creatine and some new nitric oxide I'm getting next week, Its all working very well. Putting my weights up around 5 lbs every week on most of my workouts.

Still one problem though, I've always been quite skinny and at 6' 2" my weight before showed that but I always had a problem, well the last few years at least, that I've kinda had a bit of a belly. Nothing major, and after a workout its quite tight and flex but then goes back to flabbyness later. And I cant for the life of me, get rid of it, doing so much work on my abs, trying loads of different workouts and nothings working. Upper abs are getting decent, but lower is just not budging at all, its really annoying as everything else it progressing perfectly!

I always found scrunches to be best in that regard.

I (re-)joined my gym recently and had the complementary personal trainer thingy this morning, where she basically tried to kill me. I haven't really done much exercise for a while so hard bike followed by hard running followed by kick boxing (!) and then weights. I'm going to feel shocking tomorrow. On the bike and running machine she alternated the speed between rest and hard, slowly increasing the 'hard' speed until my legs gave out. I guess I found my limits.
Kick boxing was ace though, was a good workout and felt more all-round which I prefer.

Good stuff. My aim is fitness rather than bulk right now so I'm happy with my 65kg. The only problem is I found my right knee hurting after the running... not too bad but I could tell it would get worse if I continued. Hopefully that's just me being unfit rather than anything more serious.

It looks like I'm going to be doing a lot of running over the next week.

Got up this morning and got on my bike and the front gears have messed right up. Had a quick look at it and I can't fix it.

The only other way I have of getting to work in a reasonable time is to run. I do run to work quite frequently and can easily do the there and back again distance. Never done it back to back for many days though. Will see how I get on and if I start to struggle I'll take a break with a cab.

I'm kinda seeing it as a challenge though

What protein supplements exactly? They form the bulk of your supplement budget so its important youre getting the right stuff at the right price.

Drop the nitric oxide. You can get similar results just by supplementing with arginine - a known vaso dilator. Homemade stuff is way cheaper.

No amount of sit ups and crunches will help you lose weight off the stomach. Spot reduction is impossible. In order to lose weight of stomach (where men preferentially store it unfortunately) you need to lose weight everywhere so continue with the cardio and exercise.

Water retention can often blur abs even though your technically well conditioned and at a low bf. so up the water inake for a few days and go atkins for just a week to see if you shed excess water.

My wife was doing a 5 mile race the other day with one of her clients, so I decided to go along and keep her company. After a couple of mins she met up with her clients and they decided to run together, so I ran on ahead. Came 18th in 36 mins. Considering I've done almost no running this year, I'm pretty pleased. It was off-road over styles and stuff - great course. I'm going to do some running training, see if I can get that down to 30 mins.

Can anyone roughly say what my body fat percentage is or is there a site on the net that would tell me? BMI I don't really care for. Have been working out for a year or so...
                Height 6"
                Weight 80kg exactly
Not feeling like I am getting any bigger over the last 2 months or so. I currently dont use any supplements at all, should I?

I think I've posted this earlier in the thread, but there's a body fat calculator here.

Smug mode: according to that I'm a top athlete

@charlesr: 36 mins for 5 miles is pretty damn decent if you've not been running much! still you're a fit bugger generally aren't you

My own running has been going pretty well lately. I've been running 5 days a week on average lately. Thankfully thats let me cope with the bike being in the bike shop! All the cycling I've done over the last year as really paid off. My legs are feeling stronger and my pace (and my ability to maintain that pace) has increased dramatically. This morning was a killer though. Ran to work with a heavy backpack and tried to keep the pace up. Very hard work!

Cool, came out at 8% but not entirely sure how accurate my measurements are! That sounds about right because I had a test done at a gym when I was too thin and they said it was 5% and I needed to eat lots more. Thing about fitness is that it is so damn addictive and it can be hard to know when to stop. I blame the six pack because I only relaly have one when I look really too thin so am giving up on that one and building chest and shoulders now instead.
Cheers for the link Rumbletum, not a bad site.

Does anyone work out at fitness first's in London?

i've recently twisted my ankle pretty bad so can't goto the gym let alone go jogging.

any tips on what exercise i could do whilst my ankle heals?

                        Comment

Swimming is obviously non-impact, but might be sore depending on what you've done to your ankle. If you've twisted it badly then you have to stay off it and give it the time it needs to heal, which, unless you're under 20, will be much longer than you think! Swimming might be only option.

Right, i have jus under a month to get fit for a beach holiday, is it possible? I have gotten a bit lazy in the gym, in that im doing more cardio than weight train, cos my session in the cardio room is only bout 45 mins and my weight trains bout 1 hour 30 mins. Also, ive been doin some classes.

Jus checked myself in the mirror, and not happy. I have a pot ish belly! and feel bloated all the time.

What i wanna know is, does anyone think i should up the poundage of my weights and do even more cardio? Yah see i want the toned look like erm..... Brad pitt in Fight club. That kind of trim look. Is it more to do with my diet yah think? I do eat loads of crap.

I dont neccesarily lift very heavy weights either.

Any suggestions, would be very welcome. 4 Weeks! Thats all?!?!
