LoL. That'll be where I go wrong... 24 hours without food at the moment. That's not abnormal for me, I just got used to it.

    Right, I'm off for lunch.

Gonna disagree with you there. All the big guys at my gym use the stuff, as do 60% of the Mr Olympia contestants.

And putting steroids in them? Are you serious? Come on. I'm sure these things get tested by food standard agencies across the world.

Besides, they'd be giving away free steroids!

Often whats more important to consider when bulking is getting enough protein not the actual type of protein so dont be fooled by the bull**** advertising gimmick used by companies that say their products will put on 66% more mass quicker or some rubbish like that.

The average price i'll pay for 5lbs is ?25 so you that as your guide.

Don't ever buy at rrp which for most products is a staggering ?39.99!!
You do pay for what you get. You clearly know what you're talking about, so you know that different proteins have different amino-acid profiles which can greatly affect how they work in the body. You really do get what you pay for, but of course there are some crap products out there. I tend to favour blends so I get a bit of whey and bit of casein.

Whey concentrate costs a lot less than isolate, but isolate seems to absorb even better and definitely helps if you have lactose problems.

Carbs are important - they are "muscle sparing" in that theyre used by the body to burn for energy as opposed to muscle and you'll find that when having a lots of carbs in your system, your body does an excellant job of culling nitrogen from the protein you consume.

But you'll have to experiment to find out how much is too much, which types of carbs your body responds to better etc. After 7 years i'm still half clueless! So be patient.
Very true. Different people need different amounts, can't emphasise that enough, and unless you're juiced up you have to be careful not to get in too much - look how much weight I gained in such a short time

You've just plucked that 60% figure out of nowhere. None of the competitors from the 2005 mr olympia were endorsed by CNP and are affiliated to other supplement companies; BSN, Muscletech, Vyotech, Weider.

Unless you know something none of their companies don't know. I can't see why an athlete would endorse one product, pass up on using their supplements for free and instead use another companie's products who wouldn't benefot from the advertising opportunities.

I read that somewhere, possibly a CNP / Dorian Yates interview.

Oh and it's not really necessary to accuse me of plucking numbers out of thin air. If you don't like what I said fine, but just because you don't like CNP doesn't mean others haven't had good results on it. I sell a good selection of mass gainers, and CNP gets my vote.

Well have joined GNC so am gonna go do some research on what s available on the weekend! For todays work out, some some cottage cheese and bread afterwards. Off to amazing thai restaurant so will nail plenty of chicken there

Thanks for the advice anyway (Chain in particular). Really gonna start making an effort with training to bulk up a bit now!

Thats what all the ladies say.

The fact that that stat. couldnt be further from the truth annoyed me.

Plus i never rated dorian yates just i as i don't rate "his" products.

NP mate glad to have been some help. GNC can be overpriced, but they do some great member discount specials so look at them first - end of the day, just starting taking protein itself will give you huge benefits.

Find what works for you, change workout every 6 to 8 weeks, and eat lots of carbs and protein. And let us know how you're doing

Well its been about a week since I basically took your advice chain, been eating a lot of good food but no protein shakes yet. Just been having a pot of Tesco cottage cheese directly after a workout and keeping metabolism high with high protein meals at regular times and eating more fruit.
I have to say either I am just imagining it (visual placebo??) or it is actually making a remarkable difference. Done 5 workouts in that time. So basically whole body plus one, 2 days off for recovery and put on nearly a kilo in what I am fairly sure is muscle. Don't look any flabbier due to lots of ab work every time I work out.

Feel pretty good about it, so yes diet does seem to make a massive difference. Before I would work out, not eat enough and consequently not make any gains but this week it is almost like I started training from scratch again, it has filled me with new enthusiam. Great stuff!

Also started to do new exercises that I rarely did before aimed at core strength like dead lifts and squats etc, which may be helping.

                              Comment

Superb Glad you're taking the diet side of things seriously!

The three "big" exercises should make the basis of each workout, and you sound like you're doing them - Benchpress, Squat, and Deadlift. Definitely sounds like you're going on the right track.

I suggest you measure your waist weekly just to make sure you're not putting on too much round the midsection

BTW if you can get enough protein out of whole foods, that's better than protein shakes. If you can do so, only have a protein shake immediately after the workout, as liquid whey gets absorbed really quickly when it's needed. Other than that, whole foods tend to be better as they absorb slower and provide a more steady flow of amino acids.

Really does all sound like things are falling in to place for you, which is great. Every week, aim to do an extra rep or two, or go up a very small weight. Small gradual progress gets better results long term than sudden jumps.

Keep us updated on your weekly progress mate, and all the best
