I always hit the tarmac in January. Its freezing but not full of one month gym members. All the best to them though and I hope they can stick at it.

I'm fairly snack resistant. In that I don't. But I do start to struggle with my alcohol consumption at this time of year.

Been doing a nice wee cycle around town every morning this week and it works out pretty much dead on 5 miles if my maths is correct. Lots of hills and downs and rough terrain too so its uber fun and a good workout for 20 minutes or so every afternoon.

Yeah man its bad. Lunchtime.... 2 pints... out again at 6.... I'll be pickled by the end of the day. Which means I'll miss my run tomorrow unless I get very lucky. Ahhh well. There are worse ways to spend an evening

My training routine is a 4 day split.

Day 1 - Chest, biceps, forearms
                Day 2 - Back, hamstrings
Day 3 - Shoulders, triceps, forearms
Day 4 - Upper legs, calves

Train abs most days, and do however much cardio I feel like doing.

I think the most important thing to remember with weight training is that you want to acheive total body muscle mass and strength, so that means giving 100% on every set for every bodypart.

What rep schemes do people use? I pyramid up the weights for most routines, and do drop sets too for the last excercise of each bodypart. I do try and change it about every once in a while, say doing 10/12 sets for 10/12 reps for just one excercise for a specific area.

For anybody starting out training, I would recommend 'The Truth' by Frank Sepe, very thorough and detailed.

I'm suffering so badly Tired, diet is screwed, and now a sore throat Managed an incredible one rep at 100kg on the bench today, such a struggle! Done another single a few minutes later, but it's not felt that heavy since I first done it.

Back to DoggCrapp Monday, semi intense for 2 weeks, Xmas week off, then hitting it HARD with full diet control in the New Year 8)

Got a week off work so I'm all like "WTF do I do next week!?" now the missus has taken my Wii, bitch (yeah, roll on Chrimbo). Bought some cheap bar+dumbbell+weights from Argos and I could do with a bench for some chest work but I'll substitute the bench with some other suitable exercise instead. Hmm, home gym 'ere I come.

Don't like home gyms - and no it's not just because it's bad for business!

There's a guy I know, very strong, like benching 135. Trains at home with his mate, got a lot of equipment at home. Deadlifts around 210 at home, comes to my gym where he knows people, a bit of motivation and encouragement, deadlifts 235 straight away 8)

There are also safety issues, but the biggest one is motivation.

Could just be me though, certainly easier going to the garage than driving to a gym.

                        Chain, look away now.

I use a fitball instead of a bench at home. You wobble about a bit, so you can't push as much, but you work more core muscles and other muscles related to stabilising the arms than you would in a normal press, so you win some lose some. It's also easy to bung in the shed/garage afterwards.

Ok Chain, you can come back now.

I work out both at home and at the gym depending on how I feel and find I can normally do a bit more at the gym due to the audience thingy. Sad really.

LOL. Actually in proper scientific studies, balls have been shown to improve core strength, but you aren't actually working the arms, shoulders or chest any more - in fact you're working them less as you have to use less load. It's a myth that you're using more stabilising muscles in those areas. However it DOES improve the "core". This can be beneficial to anyone with back problems, or proper sportsmen, like football players as it improves balance.

I think at the gym you just have a bit more motivation to push yourself. In this game, just an extra 1 or 2 percent exertion can make a big difference.

Ah yeah, I've got a gym ball! Nice one charlesr. Yeah, not too much into the home gym myself but I've got to do something and I'm tight so didn't want to pay and use a gym but it's a bit sad actually going to work when it's your week off I can still cycle so it's all about pumping some iron while I watch some DVDs. I do prefer using the machines these days rather than free weights as they force a certain technique. It's all good though, obviously I was feeling guilty like. I'd love a rowing machine at home though but damn, they're expensive for what I'd like (ideally a Concept2).

Well, today's weights 'session' worked out OK. I can curl the whole lot though, hmm. It'll do though although being at home my diet is ****ed and I'm eating far too many biscuits

Biscuits! Yep me too. Had a few pics with the kid done, **** I have a double chin Where the **** did that come from? Awful.

Still, unable to diet, I just know it's pointless before Xmas....
