OK so maybe stretchings a good idea! I may have picked up my first injury. 80 miles last week but fri was only a simple 6 miles felt very bouncy and was slow only 43 minutes could run all night like that.

woke up sat am couldn't barely walk my achiles was sooo painful. managed to get round a 6mile cross country course in 41.30 but it hurt all way round, not too bad but it felt warm and not happy. then to make it worse i did my long slow run 21.5 miles in 2hr 55 today and the last 4 miles were bad. it stopped being the ok pain you expect and started to be a bad its damaging you feel about it. first time ever felt i had to ice it when got back, didi same again this afternoon and going to do it again this even but its tight and not happy, damn!

I'm not much of a runner and have just signed up to a 13 half mile marathon in liverpool on march 26th.

I reckon ive got a good chance of doing most of it if I hammer the gym for the next 6 weeks, do you think im kidding myself?

Also im cutting out all the crap I eat, all alochol from my diet, what foods should I be eating to give me high energy, low release?

Yes you have, when I asked the same question a month or so back It was a great help, cheers! Not quite up to 5k yet, but I'm past the running/walking stage now. I actually cut out a few weeks of the program to get to that stage as my fitness increase was pretty rapid, I'm doing 3k comfortably at the moment (as I missed a week or so due to illness) so I shall up that a little next week.

Fruit and vegetables. Wholemeal pasta, bread, rice.

Don't hammer the gym, hammer the roads.

Christ, I don't seem to be able to lift any more with the old upper body I'm up to 85kg since Christmas, not too bad as long as it's all muscle. I must get those calipers out...

But yeah, doing the legs should help though now although I'm still doing about 20 minutes cardio to warm up before I throw some weights around. Should be back on the bike this week too.

Been doing alot more cardio recently but still doing the same if not more, weights too. In the gym 5 days a week now, averaging over 2 hours a session.

Got my squat up to 110kg now and I think I did manage 12 on that too. After that I dropped it down to 80kg and went for as much as possible and hit 26. It was absolute mayhem, just kept going and going and the screams were getting louder and louder, and more and more people we watching and wondering what the hell I was doing.

And now leg pressing the full stack which is 495lbs, gonna ask about getting more weights on the machine there as I'm knocking out 3 sets of 14 at the mo on it which is useless. Want alot more weights.

                Great fun though.

Can anyone tell me, what kind of protein intake I should be having if I'm wanting to bulk up alittle? I'm vegetarian so I've been trying to eat some form of legume with every meal, but I feel as if my progress has slowed down a little as of late. This could be either I'm not eating enough protein (ie just enough to maintain my current bulk) or that I'm just not seeing the changes because I see myself every day. I was thinking about trying some protein shakes.

My source of protein. I think quite a few people on here use the same stuff.

I had a good week last week, culminating in riding 60 miles of hills in the Peak District (including the Cat and Fiddle) on Saturday and a 14 mile hilly run (also in the Peak) on Sunday, which I ran 25 minutes (!) faster than I did last time I did it, in October, 2 weeks before the Snowdonia Marathon. My running has improved out of hand.

Anyway, now I've not trained since then because I picked up a head cold and a chest infection, so I've played it safe and not ventured out. Every day, I think I'll train but so far I've not been well enough. My nose cold has more or less gone, and my cough is abating, so hopefully I'll be ok tomorrow.

I always get ill when I visit my wife's family. One of them usually has some sort of lurgy. My sister-in-law this time. Hey ho.

Well Ive still not ventured out since Sunday with my achilies niggle, that said I can now walk without massive pain so the rest is doing the trick. Still feels warm but no long painful. I'll prob have tonight off and get back on it tomorrow, I cant afford any more time off and I feel like getting back on it tonight but its also close to the Marathon now and I cant afford to carry any injury over. That said I've enjoyed the three days off, reckon could get a little used to this resting

Only protein drink I use is SiS rego carb/protein tastes great and psychologically makes me feel like I am recovering quicker.

Finally recovered after 2.5 weeks of not being able to breathe through my nose. Still got the last remnants of the green gobs of gunk coming out of my nose though (hope you're not eating right now ). Starting exercise again tonight with a nice Pilates session.

Can't use that one as it's got Bovine Serum Albumin in. I'll have a scout around and see if I can find anything more vegetarian friendly.
