Blimey, is the Alastair on here (and in this thread) the Alastair on Eurogamer - the Photography club?
We meet at last!
Ish, I really do like the first photograph because it looks so alive, if you know what I mean. It reminds me of looking down at a SFX shot in a movie or some other photograph where it represents a new city rising - it has a life/death theme about it.
I apologise for sounding like an arty-farty but that is how I view it.

I caught the end of that program last night, didn't see the tea thoughLooks mental.
A different approach to my low light beach shots. Went for a more bleak look, tried turning the nice beach into a bit of a wasteland.
There's a colour version on flickr too but I think that'll get the boot soon as I like the BW more.

I know this has probably be explained a million times before but how do you put the link in to flickr?
There isn't really anything in the shot to use that would bring out the whites, the sky was nearly black and the sand was dark. The running water wasn't 'peaking' so has no bubbly bits.
This is the last time I'll write this, ever.
Use this buttonon flickr to view the size image you want.
Use this button here when postingto make an image. In the post box thing then highlight the url you used as well as the [IMG] tags at each end. Then click the
button to add the link back to the relevant flickr page.
It'll look like this without the spaces in the tags:
