There are quite a number of Olympus E500 on eBay with the two lens kit going for around the £300 mark too - which would be a cheap way of getting into the DSLR market. Take smashing pictures they do too.

The D40 would also make a very good buy at that price.

I've always enjoyed taking photographs but haven't really thought about taking it further until recently. Most of my shots have been taken on a 5 yr old Sony Cybershot, but I thought it was time for a more creative upgrade. After much deliberation I plumped for a D40 and have been very impressed with it, especially from a novice's angle.

Anyway, here's a few shots from Lisbon which was my first attempt at using it. There are also some old shots from my Sony. Go easy guys!

Those last two are rather luscious! Nice stuff.

Some great photos here in the last week or so. Been on holiday (it rained almost constantly).

Here's a few of my neice in a field we found. More on flickr...

Some good efforts recently folks, lots of quality, love the style in those Gareth.

From a launch night of an exhibition I attended on Friday:

And a WA of an exhibition on the beach here, great shots but I can't find anything online about them.

Like those shots Gareth, the 2nd one in particular. They've got a nice feel to them.

I really like your final shot Gareth - great work.

Check out this link. Kind of photography related. Smart image resizing. Very very clever!

Great stuff from everyone yet again! I'll have some to add later in the week as I think I probably took nearly 1000 photos this weekend

This is one of my favourite photos. Not from any technical standpoint, just from a personal point of view. I saw this goat all on it's lonesome on a tired old farm in NZ; it's fur was all dirty and worn away and it had no mates to talk to. I felt like giving it a big hug, but then remembered it was a scabby old goat, and thought better of it.

                                Hi all,

Just got in touch with the collage about the photography course they are running and its going to cost £200 for the year. Doesnt seem too bad, but i could use this money to go buy myself a DSLR like the nikon D40. How hard is it to teach yourself to take good photos? should i do the course then buy a SLR camera when ive saved up more cash or just go buy a camera and teach myself?

                                Cheers
