Thanks for your kind words, it's a real encouragement for me

Some nice pics there Magnakai - that last one has a nice look and feel to it.

I've been taking photos of ladders and lofts - I had to go in there to check the F&E tank as the heating is playing up ( again ) - I don't really like lofts or climbing up ladders, which kind of fitted the theme for the 2008 x 52 group on flickr - a weekly theme group, take a look and sign-up, you know you want to.

Anyway, my pic for the group this week

Wow nice shots everyone, I feel ashamed to say I've hardly used my camera again! I'm so rubbish.

Used it over the weekend and took a couple however. Nice weather to walk about but the lighting was a bit poop.

My first attempt at doing a 'proper' b&w conversion. Normally I just throw down the saturation to zero and maybe up the contrast, but I decided to follow a proper guide this time. All this time I've probably used 0.0001% of what photoshop offers!

Some nice textures there Pete - I find that grain in wood often makes a nice B&W pic, and the stone and metal adds to the mix.

I went through my gear and found 9 rolls of undeveloped film - I think some of it may be as old as ten years or more, so I'm not expecting much. - nonetheless, I've sent it for development ( and it's going to cost close to £50-60 quid ) - no wonder we've all gone digital. I do know that at least one roll of film is from my trip to NYC in 2002.

It'll be interesting to see what's actually on them

Whilst everyone's in a black and white mood.......

Glencoe, bloody cold weather (a few years back). Taken using my Fuji GA645zi, f/11 1/60 55mm Fuji Acros 100 B&W Film

Great shots as usual peeps, this thread is flying at the moment!

                And more B&W goodness

Have you guys seen the latest "Anti-terror" stuff - "Thousands of people take photos everyday, what if one of them seems odd" ( here ).

                One word: paranoia.

Well that's just great, I'm worried enough about taking my kit to America. This is the last thing I need!

(any suggestions on taking an SLR + lenses + tripod on a plane?)

                    Aye, read that Marty.

The piss take is better though Linky

                      Subtle but cool.

I can't say I've had any bad experiences lugging my kit around, actually I normally get quite positive repsonses from people, but then I tend to be friendly and smile and say hello to peeps on my walkabouts.

Well apart from the lorry driver who was parked across a pelican crossing, who soon moved after I shot the chaos caused blocking the road.

Pete - this is a UK thing - but do you really need to take a tripod with you? I'd leave it at home tbh, you could always get a cheapy whilst you're there. I don't think you've too much to worry about, but do make sure your spare batteries are in your hand luggage, there are some specific rules on that now.

                        Nice work everyone.

A good first conversion, Pete. I think you captured the texture well. Please never go back to desaturating!

                        Marty, that's pretty eerie.

GT, that's pretty amazing. Medium format. Nice.

                        Steve, that's cute. Good detail.

Thought I'd keep the ball rolling.

Pete, when I go in a few weeks, I'm keeping my camera and lenses (just 2, one of which will be attached to the camera) in my my carry-on bag (with not much else, wifey can put what else I need in her carry-on bag ) and was going to put my cheap tripod in the suitcase, although I am in 2 minds whether to take the tripod at all.

EDIT: I might get a lens case in which to keep my spare lens.

ANOTHER EDIT!: Decided to get one of these It'll hold the cam, 2 lenses and anything else I need too!

Like the band shots Mag, like the loft a lot Marty.

Pete, def take your tripod, you'll regret it at least one day if you don't. How will you get lots of cool night shots if you don't have it? Where abouts are you going again? I just packed mine in my case when I last went on holiday, everything else went in my camera bag as hand luggage.

Well, you asked for it, and I'm really sorry to break the B&W theme

If you're listed as a friend on Flickr (as all contributors to this thread should be, let me know if not) you can view all sizes on Flickr to see the super furry details.

109mm (but with the TC attached), f5.6. Bit grainy as it's ISO 800. I know it's not exactly art or pushing the boundaries of photography but sometimes the cute furry animals need some love too

Al, I think Pete's going to Vegas if I remember correctly. I'll be going there too as part of my trip, so it will be cool to have the tripod for the night shots there fo sho!

That is a cool squirrel shot by the way - doesn't he know they're for the birds though? I don't mean your pic is 'for the birds' Al

Like the road shot Mag - very cool. It looks like it's all about to 'go off'!

MSteve - nice shot of the dog, although I think you'd better feed him, as he doesn't look too happy!

Dan, the slingshot 100AW is what I'm using at the moment and that's a very good price. I was just starting to think about offloading mine as I need something bigger. Think I'll be going for a mini trekker soon enough.
