Personally, I've worked every weekend for the last 5-6 weeks, so have hardly used the camera - I've got a long weekend off this week though, so hoping to get out at some point. The only shot I've taken recently is this:

Nice work all. Really like that second shot Dan, really sharp and great colours captured.

I haven't been around much recently, far too busy working Oh, and two weeks in Sydney! Anyway a few to process but here is the only one I have had time with so far.

Click to see bigger as usual...

I like that shot Garf - did you a green 'Matrix' filter for that shot? Or is me eyes telling me lies?

Thanks Gareth - really chuffed with that set of shots. Love your Fusball photo - great D.O.F.!! Look forward to seeing your Oz shots...

I went out and took some this morning after I stayed awake all night, they were all appalling though. I may go out again in a bit.

I have to be honest here, I performed a very complex and comprehensive amount of PP on this shot, in that I basically fiddled around with loads of the user presets in the Lightroom 2 demo until I got the over saturated effect you see. It's such a secret method that I couldn't explain to you all of the steps involved, mainly because I was just clicking here, there and everywhere, and don't really know what I did

There might be a Green Matrix filter in there somewhere..

Like the energy of the dude jumping around in your 3rd shot.

Gareth - love the fusball table - the blurred circle of light at the top makes the shot for me for some reason.

Weird... I hadn't even really paid attention to it until posting it up, and then I thought about photoshopping it out!

Nope, it really is because I don't really know what I am doing with PP - it's mostly guesswork until I like the look of the photo. I normally use Aperture on my Mac, but gave the Lightroom demo a go for this one.

With Aperture, you can export all the changes you made, so I'll see if the same is true in LR and post up what changes were made (if anyone cares !!).

You can export the changes as a sidecar file but these aren't transferable to another image. It means you can open the raw image / sidecar file in Photoshop as the changes will be there (LR uses doesn't modify the original raw files). You can however copy and paste the changes.

Not sure if this site has already been posted but it's great:

They do awesome photos and it gets updated frequently. You can upload your own photos as well and let others comment on them; gain some more publicity.

Another reason why I like the site is that you can select your favourite image in almost any resolution, so they fit nicely on your monitor, or your 1080p HDTV!

Nice images, though free publicity usually means someone will offer to credit you if you allow them to use your image of their site, mainly cos they have no budget for images. Picture credits don't pay the mortgage.

Can any of you guys recommend a good compact camera? I just want one to use for parties, events, etc, and general dicking about.

I like the style of Sony cameras but other than that I have no clue. I'd want to spend up to ?150 but could go slightly higher for an exceptional camera.

How about the Canon Powershot G9 or the Nikon Coolpix 5100 - they're both a bit more than your budget but are well worth it!

The Panasonic TZ4 is a lovely little camera. I have one as a take anywhere camera for when I don't want to lug my digital SLR about. It's just under ?150 brand new from most places and is well worth the money. Small, excellent zoom range, stabilised lens, very nice.
