    Ta.

Went out hoping for a decent sunset but it was a bit meh. Some gulls stopped and posed for me though.

Fair enough it's been heavily photoshopped, and I'm from Manchester, but I think this stuff is pretty unique. The story behind it is pretty interesting too.
Went to see this exhibition today. Very impressive stuff, not just the photos themselves, the story behind them too.

Nothing particularly spectacular - I got a second off-camera flash for Christmas (Nikon SB-200) and finally remembered to buy a battery for it. Tried some tabletop stuff just to try it out. Results below.

There were three flashes here - two off camera and one on. Its a hell of a lot to think about at once and try and balance. Face is a bit out of focus in this one and there are slight shadows behind. Still, its a first effort.

The SB-200 with the red filter is over-compensated here to try and give it a fiery red hanging over the fiery pit in the Temple of Doom kinda look.

I'lm going to have to put some more time in when I'm not rushing around so much but its fun, fun, fun

Quite impressed with the built-in remote flash control on the Nikon. It uses the on-camera flash to talk to the other flashes but they're pretty sensitive and don't have to be in direct line of site though I can imagine outdoors where there's a fair distance it won't be so effective. But yeah you get quite a bit of control and its dead easy to configure.

        And just arsing around:

Great shots of the gulls. I think the portrait crop works the best - seems a better balance.

Do any of you good people have any experience with the Canon 55-250mm IS lens? I can't decide whether to plump for this or the Canon 70-300 USM IS, which I hear isn't that great in terms of build quality.

No personal experience but if you dont need the length and you can afford the extra ?100 or can wait a little longer to save I would consider the 70-200 f4L.

Just been sorting out some photos and I quite like these two. I'd love the one below if that pesky branch wasn't infront of the Robin

This is my niece and Nephew, I just think its an incredibly sweet picture.

Not been out with the camera for weeks, and also had no broadband at home for a while, but here are a few from the weekend:

Despite that pesky branch, I still really rather like the Robin photo Mr Herbaroo!

That boat shot is cracking Garf - well done! I feel like I could step into the boat (it's ok, I know I can't really ). The first shot is very lush as well

Cheers Dan - must admit, been a bit fed up that I've not been able to get out with the camera for a while, so was good to finally get snapping again...

I know what you mean mate - the recent harsh wet weather is a real bummer for us budding togs - most of this thread's usual posters have gone into hibernation, not to be seen until around March or so! I get out when I can and don't mind the cold so much but the rain pisses me off. I'm getting a new lens in March though so that will give me renewed vigour to get out there and snap like crazy

Snowed in today. I couldn't go to the local woods as I'm working from home. I may pop down in an hour though. In the mean time, here are two shots from my back garden taken this afternoon
