I've had this shot in my head for months now (since I did the one on the chair ages back), but I can't say it worked out particularly well. Didn't help that my torch kept dieing on me

Looks fine to me, i've tried to draw with a torch. Never seems to come out right though. I'd have to cheat and use a cardboard template!

Yeah it does take quite a few tries, the 'out takes' on my camera show a rather...troubled bunch

If you look close (large version) you can see a number of flaws in the images which was a shame (the area around my fingertips in particular), unfortunately it was getting late so I gave up.

Are you impressed with my crayon skillz?

Its pretty good and worth persevering with I think. Maybe having a "model" for the hand would be helpful! It would sort out your fingertip problems at any rate.

Not too sure about this one, it's purposefully a bit overexposed to bring out the white background and the colours.

            What do you think?

I think it looks really good. The lighting looks excellent.

Here are a couple of lucky shots, not really that arty farty. Catching my snake with it's tongue out being the 1st and the 2nd being a really good deal from the local supplier. Check out those crystals!

Snake one's pretty good. I'm not sure what the other one is

I'll get round to taking some artsy shots when I cba, ultimately when I'm not on a MMORPG.

My snake usually attacks the camera when I take shots of him.

The actual high-res original of that ganja shot is mouthwateringly superb.

What effect does aperture have on clarity of an image?

I'm trying to 'test' my new Tamron lens as I can't get a sharp image out of it at full reach at all (maybe because I'm not used to 300mm), and took some pictures of a bit of text on a box that was well printed. Compared it with the same pic taken with my old 200mm Canon zoom and found the sharpness to be exactly the same. I was shooting on low light however so all shots were either at f4.6 or f5.

Basic question is: would a higher f# produce a sharper image?

                            Comment

Basically, yes, the higher the f# (smaller the appature) the sharper the image will be.

However I assume it depends what your shooting. You probably wont see the difference shooting something close up (a scene with no depth), I have a feeling it really only applies to scenes where you have a noticable foreground and background sourrounding your subject. In that instance if you shoot with a low f# (large appature) your subject may be sharp while the background/foreground will be soft. If you decrease the f# (smaller appature) then you can achieve an all around sharper image including the foreground and background. In theory.

So, do you think its camera shake or just the lens itself?

Using say f2 rather than f11 means that the shutter speed will be faster. But, lots of lenses simply don't focus well when 'wide open' (eg f2) when fully zoomed and will provide a soft image.
