Yes, I meant that the successor to the 5D, whatever it is called. Also the 30D is currently 12 months old as it was announced last Feb. Or did you mean 18 months old in Sept? Anyway, I am happy with my 30D so can't see myself upgrading for a few years yet.

Close to 1,000 Flickr hits for me. I need to include the tag 'Free Sex' in every photo from now on.

    2,000 forum posts and counting..........

It is mostly bollox! However the link to Tog's Blog can be entertaining. He is a press photographer. If you can find the Elton John post it's worth it.

Just shy of 9000 for me as we're comparing!

A heads up that What Digital Camera is giving away free flash shoe spirit levels this month, they say worth over a tenner, I say about 6-7 quid but the mags only 4 quid so it's still a bargain

Testing DOF of the EF50 f/1.4

              f/1.4

              f/4.5

              f/13

Looks a tricky lens to use close up.

A recent copy of Eos Magazine had a comparison of the Fisheye on a 20D and Full frame. Sadly you do lose a lot of the effect with the crop. I guess what you lose at one end you gain at the other.

Excellent subject matter for the 50 f/1.4!!

Blimey, the difference in colour saturation and contrast is huge...

More importantly I am jealous...couldn'f find the Marmite Guinness SE anywhere.

wow didnt realise colour saturation was effected by F but now I think about it it explains a lot!

Dunno, it might be me pointing the flash in a slightly different direction (was late!)

(if anyones interested there's 3 more of the comparision shots just change the filename on the image to mm1 to mm6 - range of aperture 1.4/2.5/4.5/7.1/13/22)

GT - how did you get into the stadium for those shots? I like the one with the lights on a lot.

Also, I thought the bottom Marmite image was BW when I scanned through it as the colours are so washed out!

Just by coincedence I was asked to work at the NIA. So thought it would be rude not to take the camera.

I should had a tripod mounted flash for the Marmite test, instead of handheld (via off shoe cable).

I found one on the wrong shelf in Tesco, and my Father in Law picked these last two up from Waitrose. Tesco told me they should be getting more in though.

I'm not hoarding them, 2 are for me and 1 for a friend who's a bit nutty on Marmite.

My housemate has posed an interesting question today in our usual round of emails, to save time i'll quote him verbatim and add his sketch:

After more thinking at work with a calculator i have decided that for a camera with a resolution of 3000 x 2008 pixels there is only 99.9 trillion photos you can take before you start taking the same ones again (this includes colour and black and white). I find this quite interesting as until this morning i'd never thought there was a set limit to digital photos in the world. Obvioulsy film cameras are a whole different thing as are different resolutions (if you only had a 1 pixel camera - you could only take 255 unique images)

This seems abit small considering this covers all photos anyone could ever decide to take

Here is my maths, anyone good at maths problems like to check i'm right or wrong at this:

For anyone that's been thinking about picking up a Fuji compact, but has been waiting to see how the F40fd turns out, there's a great comparison between it and a Fuji F31fd here: http://mpm.kitamura.co.jp/mssm/blogs...fd_161441.html

While it seems that the F40 has a better lens (seems to have improved chromatic aberrations quite a bit) it just helps show how much of a difference an extra 2 megapixels makes to noise. The F31fd has more detail at ISO400 than the F40fd has at ISO200. (and roughly the same amount of noise)

I had been planning on upgrading to an F40fd if they had improved the sensor enough to produce images at least on par with my F30, but it looks like I'll be sticking with what I've got for some time.
