Only got my D400 yesterday, and is my first venture into the world of SLR, these are fresh off the CF card...

      That first shot is great.

The first ad-venture of many I reckon

        Thanks for the comments guys.

Great pics Stebbo, love the one through the arches.

Maybe sigma should produce lenses with an replaceable bottom piece to protect then on later bodies. That said the more expensive lenses can have the firmware updated.

Exif info for the pics (just incase anyone's interested)

I'm definately going to get a macro lens when I can afford, but currently enjoying taking it all in.

I've been to Elan a number of times (it's where the brummies get our water from!). Thought i'd revisit (as i was bored and fancied a day off walking somewhere). Might try the lake district next time

I am not sure about Canon not wanting to screw Sigma, as every purchase is a potential loss to Canon. I assume that Sigma simply reverse engineer the mount tech, so it would be interesting to see Canon's opinion on this. The fact that they exist suggests that, either there is nothing that they can do or they encourage third party makers.

Do they care or do they see it as a good thing in the end as a Sigma/Canon mount lens equals increased Canon body sales in the long run.

I really envy you guys back home, as it is almost impossible to find such natural wonders in Japan. This is such an overpopulated country that every square metre of habitable land is buried in concrete and turned into apartment block. The Japanese hold this delusion that their country is beautiful, but in reality unless you venture into the mountains, it's pretty much just an endless strip of concrete kept in check by the sea.

Not a particularly special shot, but I'm surprised at how well the lunar eclipse turned out, considering it's a P&S camera, a really tight crop, and I don't have a tripod. Taken through a window as well, as you can see from the slight reflection.

Good effort andrew considering the circumstances.

I went out with the tripod.

                    Clicky to go biggy.

Some guys playing chess on the streets of San Francisco. Yes I played them, and lost badly lol, 3 dollar bet too. That was my lunch.

Nice photo ZS, great tonal range and a nice candid view. Like it a lot.

Like the way all the eyes are on the board. Black and White suits the image.

Without a tripod, that is incredible, I've lent my digital camera to someone, so I had to try with a ?50 35mm compact, I dont have much hope for them coming out lol.

Could have done with a bit more reach...also didn't appreciate quite how much the moon would move so it's blurred the image:

As usual, the liveview and articulated screen came in handy:
