      Ooh, those ripples are lovely.
Thanks for the comments guys. I think I'll do as Spock says and play with them a bit more.

Marty, any particular reason you got that Olympus? Is it just to have a portable photographic tool? It's quite old, but a F1.8 lens on a digicam is not to be sniffed at, and the review at dpreview.com is quite complimentary.

Edit: Dan posted as I was typing. That cat shot is great. Full of character. I like the concept and composition of that bubble shot, but it's a tad too subtle for me and my possibly too-bright monitor.

Edit 2: Yup, it was on a gamma of 1.8. Adjusted it to 2.2 and it's much better now.

Love the cat shot. Nice and grainy - it really suits the black and white and texture of the cat fur.

Because I'm daft and end up bidding on stuff on eBay that I really shouldn't.

Yep, I popped on there today and bought a new (old) 90mm lens and lots of other crap I probably won't want when it arrives!

An effort from this evening. Not quite right. It was shot using a small maglight for the lighting - I'm wandering if a second might help me even it out a bit.

I tried getting some shots of the meteors this evening, and despite the odd one or two coming across the frame, I totally managed to capture zero of them. The stary sky seems to have come out okay, I'll post one up later. But meteorite capture = total failure

Edit-actually, looking a bit more carefully, I did manage to capture one, but it's so faint it barely registers in the frame ( not in the above shot though )

Lovely still life, Ish. A maglite, eh? I expect their eBay value to skyrocket. :P

Apologies if it's getting samey, but I'm really pleased with how these two came out:

                    And on black.

                    And on black. (recommended)

I nearly bought a Voightlander Vito CLR today on eBay. Beautiful little 60s rangefinder with a lovely Color-Skolar lens. But it went for a bit more than I fancied spending on it. Probably for the best, but boy are those cameras pretty.

I could barely see the meteorites - just too much street lighting where I live. My mum rang me up she was so excited - she had a crystal clear view of them. But then she does live in the back of beyond and its proper pitch black at night there.

I particualrly like the second one magnakai. Nice.

Ish: love the chess piece dude - looks like the front cover of a PD James novel

Magnakai: I like the second one too

I'll raise you with this one:
This is the second out of three photos that turned out. I made this one much smaller size. Hope you enjoy this one as much as the other photo

Some great shots as always recently guys. I took quite a few over the w/e but as we were away I wasn't able to process them yet, will take a look tomorrow and see if anything is worth adding to Flickr.

                              Snail on my window:

Sorry about the poor quality pics - it was at night on the outside of a the window, so the flash was causing havoc.

I've never seen the underneath of a snail before so was trying to figure out how it moved. My deduction was that there are no moving parts and it actually uses magic.

Taken at about 9:15 PM, I was actually making my first attempt at shooting traffic trails while waiting for the fireworks to start at 9:30 PM. But I got lucky, and I got a nice bolt of lightning while I was at it. Tripod mounted, ISO 100, F 8.0, 16 sec shutter. If you look at the larger sizes, you'll notice little dots scattered throughout the image - that's the light rainfall happening while I was shooting.

How did they get an exposure slow enough to blur the car lights but fast enough to get the lightning?

OK looked in the properties and see how.
