Durham Beer Festival - 10 noobs.

Picking up the pace here! Plough Boy bailed out on me for the Durham festival and missed a good show. I got there early, which was good because it was very busy by 8pm. Got myself a couple of pump clips, a couple of glasses, and a couple of beer-themed books for 2 quid apiece (RRP - a tenner each.) All the beers were available at once, on proper handpulls rather than gravity. Although strangely, most of the beers tasted like gravity beers anyway, with less body and less head than a normal cask beer. I tried some festival specials which were a slight letdown, as usual, and some super beers from Mithril Ales. Also tried BG Sips by Blue Monkey and Foxfield's Big Breakfast.

Only 1 beer was average, 7 were Good, and 2 were very good (9s, Juans). They were - BG Sips and Mithril Ales Flower Power.

Suffered today a bit, like.

Been a while since I've posted in here. Anyway, tonight I am drinking:

Badger's Tangle Foot: Not much of an aroma, maybe slightly toffee, but is very quaffable - 7/10

and

Black Sheep's Golden Sheep: Quite similar to the Tangle Foot but not as sweet - 6/10

Had the above accompanied by a nice biryani. Lovely.

It was all good. There's been a bit of a slow down since the Norwich Beer Festival and the forced move away from a pub I used to quaff at.
Hopefully, Big Daddy Plough Boy will be up for a Christmas afternoon down Durham on a beer trail, if he can avoid getting henpecked that day.

Whilst enjoying the East Anglian derby I partook in the following Norfolk Ales:

Iceni Fine Soft Day 4.0%
Iceni Celtic Queen 4.0%
Iceni Fen Tiger 4.2%

FSD and Fen Tiger were very tasty and added to the glory of the occasion.

Now I just need to find a 4-1% beer!


As for the beer trip prinny - afternoon of Wednesday 22nd is GO!

Had a pints of Leeds Brewery Hellfire and Black Sheep Woolly Jumper yesterday. The Woolly Jumper had a really strong liquorice taste which I found overpowering.

Had them before but on the Hobgoblin and Fursty Ferret again. FF totally delicious with great toffee taste. Can't remember my previous rating but now it's 9/10.

Randomly had some Koppaberg pear cider as well. Tastes like pop really but in a good way. Don't usually have cider since the rank likes of Strongbow has put me off but this was very nice.

I've been in the Fighting Cocks a few times and never had any trouble. Plenty of scallies in there like.

I've had two cracking beer trips this festive period, but now that the hols are done, I can't bring myself to post about them. Too missioned! Maybe later. They were class *sob*

Just found a bottle of Fuller's Vintage Ale, 2007, Limited Edition, Tenth Anniversary; still boxed on the shelf.

I opened it expecting a vinegar special, but the best before date was, to my surprise, end of 2010. So it was still tip-top. 8.5% volume, bottle number 103369. Can't understand why it was still ok because it was *supposedly* bottle conditioned. I couldn't taste any sediment, and if there was some in it, surely it would have went bad after a year, rather than be ok to drink 3 years later?

Meh ... 9/10 anyway. TOP BANANA.
