Yeah, I've had a few problems with my Mastercard over the years and HSBC have been really quick to sort things out. Never had to ring Barclays, hopefully they are as efficient. The problem with all this stuff is that, thanks to data protection or whatever, they don't give any info as to what actually happened. When my Paypal got compromised, I had no idea if the person had just got my password or had used the forgotten password form or had actually hacked Paypal's own servers or what. I suppose a bit more transparency could aid the criminals even more but it means I've no way of knowing what needs to be tightened up, whether it's something at their end (hacking) or mine (firewall, trojan, etc etc).

Chances are this top up is a test run, in which case I'm worried about waiting until the morning (they're not picking up at the moment). I suppose it's not that urgent, I'm near the account limit as it is.

Yeah, I think that's fairly normal. A few small transactions, top ups or iTunes, then go for something higher.

I just rang them and they didn't cancel the card yet, they've just sent out some paperwork to sign. HSBC cancelled the card first before ringing me, but I guess in this case they need to look into it first as it's such a small amount (the HSBC stuff was big). I mentioned that it's probably a test run before a bigger hit but he said that's what they're going to find out.

happened to me again on a different card

this card hardly gets used and all it does it pay for items from play-asia or VGP

a nice faceless chap decided to buy bus tickets, get himself a top up on t-mobile and then went back home and tried to play ?200 worth of party-poker and another ?200 for something else

As above many of these have to be online frauds so where is the leak/problem occuring? Is it hacking, key logging or some other form of spyware? All very disturbing - my brother, sister and I have now all been victims of this twice now.

i don't think they are to be honest

about a month ago they were hacked and alot of peoples account details were taken

i kinda thought that i'd gotten lucky and they never took mine, they should be okay now

This isn't the first time this has been said about shopto though, it isn't a recent thing.

I had someone treat themselves to £60 on my debit card recently, weird thing is I've never used mine online.

Skimmed ATM or you used it at a dodgy retailer. Or someone jotted down your card details and got it cloned somehow. There are numerous possibilities and it can drive you nuts.

More and more people are falling victim to fraud nowadays. It's pretty rife.

Got me for a 2nd time, much worse this time too. 4k from my current account

Lots of flights/train tickets in multiple currencies.

Anyone know what Bank of Scotland are like for timescales of returning the money?

                          ^^ That's awful

I keep my debit card in my wallet and only ever use it for cash withdrawals now at a few select ATMs that I imagine aren't too likely to get fiddled (they're in wide open spaces). At least with credit card fraud it's not your actual money being taken so bills, etc can still be paid as usual.

Yup lesson learned. Gonna use my credit card for everything now and keep my debit card locked away.

You can use Paypal for stuff that isn't a pre-order on there now, which should be a bit safe.
