That's how Einstein used to work allegedly. He'd sit at a sloping desk holding a metal pen so that when he fell asleep it would clang onto the floor and wake him up, thus keeping him in a constant state of being almost asleep.

Working on a new track at the minute.

45% complete I'd say, only I've hit a creative brick wall. I have most of it there, but something is missing, and everything I try to add sounds ****.

I hate it when that happens.

Do any creative types of any variety have any tips for overcoming inspirational blocks?

Getting stoned could help but often leads to muchos repetition! I would go away from it completely - go for a walk/swim/bike ride, buy a new book and read it, listen to Radio 4 - whatever, but just detach yourself completely and come back to it in a day or two (or sooner obviously if you come up with something)

I get that as well sometimes. I've even woken from dreams that have featured song ideas, and if I don't record them in rough form there and then, they're gone forever.

As for getting stoned, that can indeed help, but I've also found it can be a hindrance too. When I was off sick a couple of months ago, I was on a creative role, practically making new beats every day. Obviously in this time, I wasn't drinking or smoking anything so my mind was more focussed and uncluttered and ideas just came easily to me. Fast forward a few months, and after a smoke, I find I just can't be bothered to work on anything.

Anyway, I finally finished the track. It just fell into place tonight. Thanks for the tips though, guys.

In other news after much deliberation, I finally downloaded Firefox. I can't believe how much better than IE it actually is. I'm never touching that piece of **** Microsoft browser ever again!
