Cinema is dead. And they don't serve beer (edit: just seen above post ) or allow you to pause the film if you need a wee. I've mentioned this before, but it's also pretty antisocial apart from the brief buzz of chatting about it afterwards.

You get beer/wine/alcopops in Gold Class. I'm telling you, its the future. I believe that the Electric Cinema (also in Birmingham) is a similar set up, except the seats are sofas, and you can even send text messages to the bar staff to get them to bring you your booze (they also do a line of home made cakes as well).

Choose from a selection of deli treats and antipasti, cakes, handmade icecream from Just Rachel Icecream, scrumptious chocolates from Chouchoute Chocolaterie, Perrier Jouet champagne, smooth coffee, and Twinnings Afternoon tea....

I couldn't disagree more - I absolutely love going to the cinema! It's not dead, you just don't enjoy it. You wouldn't expect to drink beer in the theatre or get them to stop the play/live show just because you needed a wee. Seeing films on the big screen is fun - it's got a massive screen, far bigger than anything you're likely to have at home and great sound too. I think it's a personal choice and I respect your opinon - I just completely disagree.

However, the chavs and chatterboxes are ****e and I could do without them!

lol ok well maybe the cakes and drinks by text are a bit over the top. But it is nice that there are a few places around that let you take a bottle in with you

I dont think cinema's dead either. I know a lot of people who go on a Wednesday. Mostly due to the Orange Wednesdays, but even still...

I think the Cinema is dead. It's massively overpriced and nearly all new films thesedays are ****e.

You're going to the wrong cinemas.

You can take alchohol into the one here... and next tuesday they're showing the original Wickerman.

                Win.

I used to go to the cinema at least once a week, especially while at school and university. Driving up to lakeside after the pub / going to KFC afterwards, it all seemed pretty good fun. But back then I didn't have a 42" plasma with 12" sub and DVD. Die Hard 4 and the latest Lynch film almost tempted me. But instead I just added them to the postal rental list. I'd like to enjoy it again, but every time I go I just end up moaning about the bad sound setup, the legroom and the idiots.

That's why me and the wife pay Cineworld £10.99 per month to go as often as we like - we go 4-5 times a month and consequently save a shedload on ticket prices. I hear Odeon charges £8.50 a ticket now

That's purely subjective - I may (and probably do) enjoy films that you don't. But I draw the line at utter bollox like Norbet or Big Momma's House : shudder :

That's an alright deal, more cinemas should do this.

?8.50!!! It's catch 22 though (I've never used that catchphrase before so I hope I used it correctly and got the number right), ?8.50 is a lot but it's still a cheap night out, so we'll all carry on paying.

Well, maybe check to see if there's a Cineworld nearby, as £10.99 for as many trips to the cinema as you cram into a month is a bit of a better deal than £8.50 per ticket!

As for Catch 22, you go the number right but I don't think it is really applicable to what you were saying...
