Certainly does make it more interesting. I'm sure finger wagger would have been more upset if the road had been blocked for an hour or two with mashed up Mazda though

I installed those STi Metal pedals today and was delighted to find it was a full set although the seller said that there was no clutch pedal. It was packed tightly with the break

It's been pouring down all day today as well so it's properly wet out side yet I didn't suffer any slips on the pedals which is what I was dreading. I was wearing trainers mind you but then again I do pretty much everyday

While installing the pedals I noticed this socket under the steering column.

I've noticed this before so I checked the users manual to see what it was but there's no mention of it. Looks to be an interface socket for testing the electronics. Any ideas?

It's the diagnostics connector. I have a similar one in my Toyota.

It lets you plug stuff in. For example:

You can sod about with the engine timing and fueling if you want.

And do your own road dyno testing (bhp/torque).

And turn your laptop into an enormous real time dashboard.
              And lots of diagnostic stuff.
If you pay them LOTS of money and do the training, then you can get the tuning software that will safely give your car 350bhp if you know what you are doing. Which you don't.

Or you can splurge on a new dash!

And it does laptiming: "What's in the box? Display, connectors, download lead, lap beacon receiver and transmitter."

Wow, very cool but the price is a bit steep if I wantedf the top end one. Can't really understand it all at the moemnt because I've had a few to drink but it does look very nice. Thanks for the answers guys. Now I know what it is.

Better to spend the money on an 20G turbo and a remap You need 400bhp.

I really shows just how much computers control modern cars. Years ago, you could possibly fix them yourself but now, if some code corrupts or something, it might mean a a trip back to the dealer for a reflash, or whatever.

Or replace the ECU - 2nd hand boxes aren't too expensive and easy to get to normally. But yeah.... I know what you mean.

Mapping cars is so satisfying. We spent a while tuning (no laughing) Saxos and managed to get 20 bhp from an NA car just with a decent map.

Not cars so a little off topic but I couldn't find a specific thread for garages. I like the top multi-garage one!

Just came back from an interview and had to go past the Mira test track on the way. Loads of lovely test mules out on the roads near by. Lovely stuff. Couldn't tell you what any of them where though as they all looked like boring 5 door saloon cars. Nice to see though!

Finally got my 182. Didn't have chance to see what it can do yet as the boot was full of spare bits and pieces (exhaust, tyre, brakes, springs etc).

                                Oh yeah.
