Akira is one of the worst anime films ever made, excluding the festering Ghibli monuments to dead end storytelling.

Akira manga > Akira film.
But then, I'm pretty sure even I couldn't squeeze 1000 pages of religion, philosophy, genetic experimentation AND an awesome motorcycle and laser bazooka into a 2 hour film so something would have to go!
PS: I love the film too.
Anime on Blu, when done right (Paprika, Tekkon Kinkreet, Ghost 2 Innocence) is stunning. It's just Funimation in the US putting out lousy upconverts. I love Samurai Champloo so will buy it on Blu when I've got some spare cash. If Bebop / Evangelion / Haruhi / Lucky Star were ever released I'd be all over it like a rash, throwing money at their publishers but only if they were done properly (hell, I paid ?60 for the film on Blu) but for general watching purposes it's fansub all the way.

I don't think I've ever watched a single piece of animé.
EDIT: Also, that the web version of Twitter doesn't track what you've already read like the iPhone app does.
EDIT2: Also that you can't tell the iPhone to ignore a wireless access point. I hate the iPhone.Last edited by Number45; 22-07-2010, 06:39.

Re: EDIT2
Not sure if this is what you mean, but I got fed up of being on the train or street using the internet and having my iPhone keep popping up a list of nearby access points when I was on the internet. Go to Settings, click the Wifi bit and at the bottom set 'Ask to Join Networks' to OFF. I did that and it still joins my saved networks automatically as usual, and still shows nearby spots in the settings menu itself, but no longer as a pop up.

Another Japan related irk.
It's pretty much the peak of the summer heat right now.. I might as well be burning alive - the air conditioner doesn't even seem to work as it just chills the outside but inside I'm still boiling.
That's not my irk though - the irk is the old ladies and housewives who dress up like Darth Vader at the first hint of sunshine. Black arm covers, black gloves, black visors pulled down over their faces. It's the complete lack of logic that annoys me - black absorbs heat!! How nobody has cottoned on to this fact in such a hot country is a complete mystery to me.
It actually makes me doubt my own view of the world when I come across this kind of blatant difference in perception. Have I been wrong all these years?

According to Ian Malcolm in Jurassic Park (the book, not the film), black is the ideal colour to wear in the heat, which is why he wears all black clothing. As it's the colour that absorbs the most heat, we interpret that to mean wearing white clothes are best in the heat because white will reflect the sunshine, but black's absorption works both ways, so it's the best at transferring heat away from the body, whereas white would reflect it back in.
I don't get that theory, as I'd have thought pigmentation affects light absorption/reflection, and not heat itself (your body isn't exactly emanating light). I also may have got it completely wrong, but it was something along those lines. I don't have the JP book with me right now to check.
