My local JC has never, ever had any development jobs in it, all I get offered is jobs in retail. They even send them through the post, but they're "not allowed" to remove retail from my job criteria. They even complained when I had to reschedule a meeting because I had a job interview, muppets

I've been landed with support until Xmas - was on weekly rotation. You would not beleive what I have to do to get paid what I do. No coding, no testing, no nothing. Just table updates and telling users they are looking at the wrong number/screen/report/day.

      Mindnumbing.

        Mortgage applications, specifically Nationwide.

We applied for a mortgage with Halifax in October and went from initial application to approval in 10 days flat. Unexpectedly came into more money, so we added that to our deposit and did a new application for a better deal- turned out to be Nationwide. Now 5 weeks and counting... WTF? Every time I call, I get told everything's progressing fine, they've had everything they need off us, it's being processed. How many people do they have processing these things- 2? Had the exchange date put back twice now and the next one's tomorrow. Really, really hope they don't eff things up for us.

Er... no. A lot of them are leaving home for the first time, so fee increases will affect them massively, incurring debt that could hinder them when buying property in future. Older students may have already worked and paid taxes for years, which is something we will continue to do if/when we graduate and get better jobs. A possible trebling of student debt may cause a prospective mature student to reconsider a move into higher education, as that debt will persist for many years.

Students didn't get the country into this financial mess and they do not deserve to be punished for the irresponsibility of banks or their parents living off credit. Prospective students about to be hit with astronomical fees are quite rightly protesting against their introduction from a party that largely hails from a generation that enjoyed free degrees but are quite content to close the door behind them. While I agree that there are plenty of useless degrees and lecturers that generally don't pull their weight where they should, new students should not have to bear the weight of the debt that this new legislation is proposing.

So you think everyone else in the country should have to pay for students through higher taxes? If they choose to go to uni then they'll have to weigh the cost/benefit of the fees.

Banks/parents have got nothing to do with it. If the Labour government didn't decide 50% of the population should go to uni then their running costs wouldn't have massively increased.

                          I thought so, it's a classic.
Fairly high success rate I would imagine.
Or you could go down the leaving las Vegas route and do it with killer combos of alcohol and hookers (drugs are optional depending on credit card limitations etc etc).

Pffft! Students. I left school at 16 and went to work. Everyone I know from my year that went to uni, are now in crap paying jobs, bitching and moaning about how tough life is. Oh boo friggin' hoo, that'll teach you to take your stupid media courses instead of going out and getting your hands dirty in a real job. I fart in their general direction.

Never underestimate the importance of education. We here in Ireland have the highest figures when it comes to proportion of population with at least upper second level education and we're doing... oh....

It's because I left school at 16 and ended up in crap paying job I went to University

The hostility towards students is surprising, not everyone does some naff pointless arty BA Mediaology type course.
