I remember my test. I was pretty nervous and on the first part I had to reverse behind a parked car. I didn't manage it then started the manoeuvre again and done it fine. In my mind I had cocked up the test completely so I was more relaxed for the rest of it. I remember driving behind a bus that had an advert by the local authorities to eat healthily, and it said 'Bran Jovi'. I remember grinning trying not to laugh at it and keep a serious face.

The time we got back to the test centre I felt deflated but to my surprise the examiner turned round and told me I had passed! As I had redone the manoeuvre calmly after messing it up first time I had redeemed myself. Best surprise ever and I was glowing for the rest of that day. Scarily that was almost 15 years ago.

Golden rule: if you've fluffed up a manoeuvre, you can adjust it or do an extra action. So long as you're never dangerous and the end result is fine, you've a lot of leeway (may add to your minor total though).

It's better to pull out again (minor fault) than to hit the curb (insta fail). You only need to convince the examiner you're capable of doing it safely to get it checked off.

My test was pure luck to be honest, I'd only had about 20 lessons and wasn't ready for it. I had a test booked for the end of Oct 2000 but managed to get a cancellation in mid September and thought I'd give it a go. If anyone can remember that year we had petrol strikes and the day of my test was one of them so the roads were completely empty other than queues for the petrol stations

.. the fact the DK Returns on the Wii has a 2% higher metacritic average than GT 5 at the moment.

I'd like to hear the reasoning behind why that makes you smile. Do you have a personal grudge against Polyphony Digital and/or fans of GT? Are you just a spiteful person? (I may have another post for the irks thread in the making here...)

Something that made me smile the other day. I bought a can of coke out of the vending machine on my way home as I always do. As I was walking away the machine started beeping rapidly followed by a long continuous beep and then all the lights came on at once. Me being Scottish, I assumed I had somehow managed to reset the machine to factory settings - I surreptitiously pushed the coke button again. Another one dropped! I pocketed it, looked around shiftily and then rushed off grinning.

I suppose it's a sad reflection on my way of thinking. I was recounting my tale of how I cheated the system later on and was told that many Japanese vending machines have this kind of lottery thing going on where lucky people can sometimes get free stuff.

So Japanese random bonuses make me smile.

Think you may be over analysing my thought process, i dont wish anything against GT or its players, when i went into games metacritic 2 of the highlighted 3 games were DK and GT. I'm amused by a game that is rather serious and been subject to years of hype and delay being rated more lowly than one about a large ape collecting bananas.

If it hadn't been DK beating GT it wouldn't have made me smile, unless it was something else 'light and frivolous' like let's dance 2

It's e equivalent of going into films in there and seeing Dude Where's My Car rating higher than JFK

Some twonk of a young lad in my block of flats who has a 3-series bimmer. He spent about twenty minutes clearing the snow off it this afternoon then couldn't get it out of the car park

Rear wheel drive and wide wheels = recipe for disaster!!

Saw some guy last night unable to get his car moving, he came out and started furiously clearing away behind the rear tyres. I didn't have the heart to tell him that the Zafira is front wheel drive...

I'm going to counter all the Christmas whinges in the irks thread. I love Christmas, and now we have our daughter it's even better. Best time of the year for me, and the build up to it always gives me a warm feeling.

                          Hear hear.
Love Christmas and spending quality time with the family.
Oh and of course love the over indulgence, but thats pretty much a constant throughout the year for me

Was behind the counter at work on Saturday and overheard the customer being served by the person next to me asking for a game for her son and trying to pull some bizarre form of emotional blackmail by adding "and he'll be so disappointed if Father Christmas doesn't bring it for him" to the end of her request. The customer I was serving kissed her teeth and glared at the other woman, who promptly dropped the theatrics and went quiet.
