Bollocks, it's not loading anymore, just a broken link!!

Er... I mean... Somebody should check to see if it's still there

        Probably a wise move.

My new internet connection is making me smile. I?m struggling to find speedtest.net servers with enough capacity to test my line. As far as I can tell the ISP is providing a 100Mbit /100Mbit connection to the internet! Sometimes the servers seem to allow me to download full speed, sometimes not. I also wonder if my wifi is bottlenecking me....

Anyway, horray for fibreoptics. Certainly a cool thing to smile about in my world.

EDIT, my wifi says 300Mbit and doesn?t go over 28% during test on task manager so wifi is OK I think.

Wow, that's 50x better than my connection. My connection is so bad I've stopped playing games online.

              I hate you.
Mine has a download speed of 2.9mb/s.

Edit: That is jokey/jealous hate by the way

I have 11.07mb/s. has anyone else ever noticed when you download something it only ever downloads at a tenth of what those speedtests say you have? (i.e. 11.07mbps but if I download and actual file online I get about 1.07mbps max? I've had this same issue with every computer I've ever had...)

I had good interweb access a few years back, but moved to a bigger place that was miles from the exchange, I have been on max upload 1.2Mb for ages and had to wait for the company to wire up the street with Fibre. Hoping that the upload will make for good videochat with my family back home in the UK. Mum and Dad live in the sticks and can only get 2Mb/512K so I dunno if it will help much! Anyway, I had to wait nearly 2 years for the connection, so I know the feeling!

Are they rolling out Fibre all over the UK too?

That'd be an 8th. Internet speed is measured in bits and your browser measures downloads in bytes.

8 bits in a byte so you have to divide your actual internet speed (in capcom_suicide's case 100Mb) by 8 to get your browser byte speed. So he'd get 12.5MB/s potentially.

You are confusing Mega Bits with Mega Bytes.

My 100Mbit connection downloads around 10MBytes a second. (The figure an internet browser shows you when you DL stuff.)

EDIT: I see where the Speed in speedlolita comes from! heheh

Ahh, thanks guys, that's bugged me for years!

I always thought they were the same except a kilobit is 1064 (or whatever) bits and a kilobyte is 1000 bytes (or vice versa). See I said (elsewhere on here) I was an idiot haha

That's another issue really. HDDs are sold with 1000 bytes being a KB or 1000 KB being a MB, but once formatted it'll be 1024 KB per MB so you don't effectively have the usable space that the HDD is advertised as. My 2TB HDD for example, I lost around 190GB from this - 1.81TB usable.

Yeah but it's just terminology, isn't it? As you said, you don't actually lose the space, it just wasn't there to begin with. A 2TB drive sounds better than a 1.8TB drive because we like rounded numbers. I swear Snow Leopard decided to change what it thinks a Megabyte is so people thought they'd got extra space for free?

I like how the French write Mo instead of MB, I call them Mogabytes

They also use commas instead of decimals. So 1,81TB. lol
