Popular feeling on facebook - this group went up by 10,000 people in the last half hour alone:
Probably not realistic but if all those supporting that group actually went out on the streets to help then this would all be over pretty sharpish.

Damn, it all kicked off down the road from me last night... Police sirens, speeding cars etc... Good job it wasn't as big as down in London, but damn, talk about jumping on the bandwagon... I just can't believe how many idiots are crawling out the wood work with all this opportunist behaviour... It's becoming epidemic! And I can't see it slowing down anytime soon... Some people are panic buying food and stuff... Crazy bitch ass ness going on around my ends...
These damn videos on Youtube and tweets only makes it worse!

Thing is, this chav/urban yoof culture has been building for some time and there's been an undercurrent pointing to something like this for the last 10 years or so. The current state of affairs was the powder keg that set them off. Irresponsible parenting has also played a large part in this mess, too. (The way I was brought up, there's no way I would've even thought about doing anything like this at their age.)
Saw an interesting tweet from Speech Debelle on her page, which kind of relates to the bad parenting thing somewhat:
Hey worthless fathers... look what you've helped create... you should be proud of yourselvesLast edited by Ady; 09-08-2011, 11:51.

Link - interesting Guardian article from Sep '10.
The home secretary, Theresa May, has dismissed fears that deep spending cuts could undermine the ability of the police to tackle possible civil unrest, and insisted the British did not respond to austerity by rioting on the streets.
...
May told the police: "The British public don't simply resort to violent unrest in the face of challenging economic circumstances. We must have a rational and reasonable debate about policing. Your association has a long and proud history of constructive and sensible contributions to policing policy-making – long may it continue."
