    What's on yer plate?

Seems like we have a thread for everything else but not for my favourite hobbie of all; EATING!!!

I just made a dynamite batch of bolognase, with vermicelli pasta, sprinkled with heaps of freshly grated Parmgiano Reggiano and cleaned the plate with some slices of a crispy warm baguette and butter. Mmmmm.

    So, what's on yer plate?

Don't we have a food thread somewhere? Like what's for dinner or tea or something? Maybe lost...

I just had a Liga biscuit with loads of butter. Lovely.

Never noticed that before. Thought I had came up with a revolutionary idea!

Well this can be for more general eating and not just for dinner. Ha!

Made up a pretty big soup to warm everyone up this evening. Slow cooked some steak most of the day to chuck in with roast potatoes, parsnips, carrots, onion, garlic and boiled leek. Blended up half the veggies and left the rest in there whole

Sounds great, I'm doing a big casserole tomorrow.

Today was Japanese curry with rice from this years crop - fantastic.

Was forced to eat at my mates, with something his girlfriend cooked. She reminds me of Jeff's wife from Curb Your Enthusiasm sometimes. I feel sick. Sad face.

Wahey, I'm doing a casserole tomorrow too! Bit similar to tonight's dinner only with a load of chicken and dumplings...but I'm not complaining as it's a favourite of mine

So what goes in a Japanese curry? I'm a bit of a n00b when it comes to making non-British food lol.

When I first moved out from home I bought loads of stuff that I hadn't had for years like Angel Delight and sadly found that most of it was better left as childhood memories, although Angel Delight was/is still pretty good

                          Dead easy, quite a simple taste as the 'curry' comes in blocks looking very similar to chocolate. Can buy here;

Or probably from your local Asian foods shop.

The Japanese tend to use root veg like potatoes & carrots etc in their curries. For say a chicken curry, stir fry onions and the chicken until the meat is sealed, add your other veg for a minute or so then add cold water - 700-800ml does me & the wife.
Bring to boil then simmer for about twenty minutes until potatoes are done then add the curry blocks, another four or five mins and you're done.

Because it's water based it doesn't bloat you up like an Indian curry can - meaning you can eat shed loads of the stuff!

Oh, the Hokkaido stew (top product on the Mount Fuji link), isn't eaten with rice as it's put in a soup bowl and eaten as such, really good winter warmer, great with bread!

You can't go wrong with good homemade food like a stew.
